People's definition of what is right is different. Why not give your vision a bit more force behind it. That's not immoral, it's just the way to get ahead of the detractors.

Honestly, why wouldn't you. We're in a call out culture period of time. If you're running a business it makes sense to research the people most likely to become a problem for you in the future. Not personal, just business.

This assumes that you have $100,000 to treat it. The vast majority of people couldn't come up with that kind of money or talk an institution into lending it to them. If you do have the money you can get your own supplementary health i

Private care is already rationed based on your ability to pay so these arguments really don't hold water at all. The insurance system is already bureaucratic as all get out. Creating one payer would actually streamline the experience.

Certainly there are complex aspects of it but you could teach someone how to do most of what you need to do in SQL in under an hour.

It's sort of like the mouse trap problem. Mouse traps and SQL are already incredibly simple and incredible effective, that's why you don't see a reinvented mouse trap at home depot and why SQL remains unseated despite many e

I really like this comment, because I think it gets to the root of the problem. People on Hacker News would probably be happy with an engineer, systems thinker turned politician. That's probably because all of the smart people that we

I grew up in Florida, a state addicted to standardized testing, and after a while you start to notice something. Standardized tests are like a meta game. I'm sure they provide a basic bench mark to see if you're literate or can

I'm not sure if this is an Instapaper clone, an Evernote clone, an rss reader, or a flash card sync system. Not really sure anyone needs this. You talk about walled gardens and privacy concerns and "rebooting" the web but sa

People on Hacker News are also pretty likely to back ups. Getting your work laptop confiscated by agents will probably only earn you points at work. There's also a good argument to be made that the search is illegal, it's importa

I'm hoping that manufactures will start building a plausible deniability user profile you can log into while leaving your actual profile encrypted, appearing to be slack space. This kind of thuggery seems to be getting more common.

This is a pretty great way for these simulation burgers to start out. When I get a fast food hamburger, I'm not expecting something processed. I haven't had an impossible burger but it looks a lot like a fast food hamburger. Lo

Being able to respond to a doodle pool directly from an email is awesome! But the number of those use cases will be dwarfed by marketing companies that abuse these feature to track people even more.

Sorry Shopify, I think I buy MailChimp's side of the story more. I wonder what percentage of Shopify stores are just drop shipping fronts. I can see that hurting MailChimp's deliverability.

Interesting, I guess I assumed there would be some sort of internal Slack like application for work related communications. The article (or atleast my reading of it) made it seem like these were straight up standard fb messenger chats.
