I liked Common Lisp: A Gentle Introduction to Symbolic Computation. You can find its first edition online (free of charge): https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/LispBook/ Apart from explanations, it also contains exercises

I just realized that you can get rid of visible notifications by activating Do Not Disturb, for which you can set a keyboard shortcut (System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Mission Control), which is all I actually need.

Any chances it could support: - killing full screen animations - hiding full screen apps like any other (cmd-h) - keyboard control for notifications ? I assume those are a lot less trivial.

There is no need for X, you can just use elisp, i.e.: (keyboard-translate ?\[ ?\() And unless you do need X, I suggest using Emacs-Mac-Port instead of of the official Emacs: https://bitbucket.org/mituharu/emacs-mac/
