The FPS demo is just that: a demo. It's not made by a game company. It's not made by iD. It's a demo made to run on as many desktops as possible, unlike anything by iD, which pushes graphics to the limit. Graphics are your issue with this d

I think we will see FPS gaming and high-performance apps as web apps. And very soon. Try this FPS demo: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/demos/detail/bananabread (It's not made by a game development team, but tech nerds at Mozilla, s

It's lazy to give up and devote all your energies on yet another company's proprietary platform. Instead of constantly writing articles like this, how about we focus on the obstacles web apps face, and fix them. Sure, if both a web app and

Time Machine works great, and is a free part of OS X. You can use any external drive, but I use an extra Windows PC on my network which I hacked to act like a "Time Capsule." (If you're interested I can help you do this.) (Time Machine back

It's the kernel and basic elements. When Steve Jobs introduced Mac OS X, he stated even then that its kernel would be open source. Watch Steve Jobs state this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko4V3G4NqII It's still great that Apple do

It's a hoax. I'm afraid this is all moot. Instagram didn't lose 25% of it's users. http://gizmodo.com/5971784/instagram-says-25-user-exodus-is-...

I'm not convinced Apple should be put into the same category as Amazon. There's an incredible momentum of hate against Apple, and drones of Fandroids would surely sign up and give products they've never tried 0 stars and unhelpful reviews.

This isn't an issue of Android being more "open". Google baked-in one-sign in features into Android, sure, just as Apple did with iCloud. But you can't do this for other 3rd party apps on Android. You can't sign in on one app, and continu

Agreed. The difficulty creating HTML5 apps is the reason they'll never be popular. (Unless this issue is addressed.)

This is a result of Google's decision to not "perfect" this on their web app - but it could be. It's just low priority. Just as there is lag and jittery scrolling when loading older posts in the Android native Facebook app, it's not a res

Sure. Gmail.com run on the iPhone. In some cases, such as opening a subfolder that I haven't been in, loads more quickly than Apple's Mail app. (This is provably because of IMAP lag.)

But I don't. I just loaded up gmail.com on the iPhone, and its nearly flawless. If I click the "show all folders" button, it seamlessly swings over. No lag, no jittery animation. In fact, I use the built-in Mail app all the time. Loading gm

This is an article glorifying one exception in a sea of rules. This article gives the false impression that a paywall is a good idea for news sites, (and perhaps some will extend this to any kind of site, pointing to the success of the NYT)

We shouldn't have to rely on the kindness of a few strangers, and be beholden to them. Making the poor rely on charity, and not government, does just that. Government programs like welfare and public schools are much more effective at helpi

Ah, fair enough - thanks for the correction. However, the problem still stands that 48fps still doesn't look "right" to most people. I saw The Hobbit, loved it. And I want a faster frame rate than 24 - I think it can add to the experience.

I don't believe this to be so; I simply wonder. This random number of 48 just doesn't seem to work. I've actually seen it. For whatever reason, I always felt the motion of people was jittery. I'm interested in higher frame rates, and want i

Agreed. The resources Facebook put into HTML5 are irrelevant. 9 women can't have a baby in 1 month. I think the biggest problem with HTML5 is development obstacles, and mobile browsers being under-powered. Think of it this way: creating a f

An email app like Mail just download and keep offline copies of most of the mail. Opening the app and it instantly shows the pre-downloaded stuff. Yes, so in that sense, the mail app is faster. Bravo. The 40% faster boost takes us into the
