This smacks to me of peak late stage capitalism. Not everything ought to be about profit and growth. The world already has too much unwanted, useless mass produced surplus/crap.

There’s a tendency to throw the baby out with the bath water here. There’s something to be said of well partitioned services optimised for cache locality. For most start ups that may mean a small handful of services. Scale is somewhat autom

The opening sentence is hyperbolic and wrong, there is at least one additional category of source code that is neither proprietary nor open source: public domain. This entire article lost me after that initial overreach.

Did we all learn to actually program?

Yes it is. Spinning up another process is not multithreading, like, literally. It’s multiprocess. I never cease to be amazed with the complete lack of basic CS literacy from JS script kiddies.

Nope. Direct quote: > “..and when you need to utilize multiple CPU cores, you just spawn multiple processes that listen on the same socket. This is a much better way of structuring servers..”

Suggesting that single threaded concurrency is the right way to do it when building tooling is completely asinine.

To counter the top comment at the moment, being from Sydney, Australia, I totally do buy it. It also works both ways, if you want to build something with global reach but host it locally you’re immediately going to be penalised by the per

This guy should be done with Reddit and build his own API. Not an easy ask, I know, but if he’s got one of the preferred clients he’s not starting from zero.

Serverless everywhere yields apps with massive latency & loading times and if timeouts aren’t well tuned (read: set unreasonably high) you often get dropped connections on api calls. I am currently migrating an app off vercel to raw com

Firstly, JS is a horrendous target. Second, breakpointing in another language is about as great (possibly worse) as debugging via printf.

I always had the dream of building a language, then I did it and found what an extraordinary undertaking it is, and abandoned it. The issue is not getting something working early on or lack of supporting tooling. The issue (as I see it) is
