Best advice that I can give is to just try something. Build something and put it out there. IMO this is just as important as your classes. I worked throughout my entire 4 years of college and am ahead of most of my classmates in my career

So when will the government require them to conform to banking regulations? They've been lucky to dodge the banking regulations so far, but with the ability to cash checks it seems that PayPal could actually be used as an alternative to a b

IMO that screams for more AB testing as there's obviously a disconnect between the homepage and signup pages that should be tested.

That's my point, is that in most cases the amount of traffic isn't there to support such an AB test. It is also very difficult to isolate all other variables in the conversion funnel. For the case of an online software startup with an insi

I think that many people that post about AB tests fail to mention that one's expectations of AB testing have to align with the types of results one can get from AB testing. AB testing isn't meant to used through the entire conversion funnel

I don't care what MA says, it's a sad day for getting the controversial embargo-breaking news that TC is known for.

Understood; however, I would argue that consumers (ignoring early adopters) don't look at the parts individually. "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." IMO Apple won't cease to be the leader in hardware design. Even as things tr

I think this post makes some very bold assumptions. It assumes that there is no place for innovation in industrial design with glass. Apple's dominance in industrial design has given them the advantage to set the standards for industrial d

As much as like to see deals happen in the Valley, I'm saddened by this news. Not that I find the content of TC that compelling anymore, but I doubt that this will do anything to improve the quality of content. You can hate all day long on

Everyone should calm down and realize that Facebook being down for a few hours is not going to kill anyone's business. It may cause trouble and disruption, but not anything more intense than a daily commute in Los Angeles. That being said,

If you're good, I'm sure they'll take you back. The cost of hiring and ramping a new employee to replace you is much higher than the cost of bringing you back.

Question is... How long until FreshBooks partners with Yodlee, builds some reports and has a more complete solution? Or... Intuit creates a version of Mint.com for small businesses? They have a lot more cash and overwhelming marketshare in

I completely agree. I love and respect businesses that are flexible enough to embrace changes in consumer demands rather than vehemently attempt to avoid changes in the marketplace. Businesses like Blockbuster are a prime example of this.

I find that my iPad is the perfect fit to replace my laptop. I have never been able to completely ditch using a desktop anyways, so my use case for a laptop has always really been exactly what the iPad provides; a dead simple internet brows

The only takeaway I got from this was that Arrigton was correct that they didn't have the cash to actually manufacture the product. I'll wait for the iPad.

In my opinion, you are the prime example of whom this article is discussing. In my view, the bank will still profit off of your loan. If market value is about equal to what you owe, but it could only be reasonably sold for $20k but you hav

Absolutely. I think this is the root of why most people do continue to pay their mortgages. If you can afford the payments and are satisfied with where you live, then there is no reason to abandon your mortgage. Then there's the other gro

General Motors comes to mind. Bankruptcy allows them to abandon their debt and continue to operate with only the best assets as the "New GM." Basically all the same assets, screwed the stockholders and debtors, but a new company.

That is an interesting contrasting viewpoint. You are absolutely correct that the observed behavior is to act morally (as they should). I had missed this point earlier.

I agree with this assessment. It definitely isn't a binary decision. Just as it isn't a decision that should be taken lightly. Obviously there are ramifications to abandoning a mortgage and all the risks and benefits need to be weighed b

This is an important point that I think supports the overarching message if this article and the Paulson quote. The system of credit reporting has been setup to support this "debt as a moral obligation" assumption. The fear of poor credit

I generally agree with the sentiment that one is morally obligated to pay debts. This article makes a good argument that free markets don't work on morality, instead they are rooted in the assumption that everyone acts in their personal bes

I see your point, it probably has more to do with culture than hiring. The employees (at all levels) do appear to have done what was required of them with a friendly tone. Where I think this becomes a hiring problem is that I would expect

This should be a case study for recruiting. Sounds like Barnes & Noble's hiring practices need a serious overhaul. Find some passionate people and they could turn around their business in no time.
