Realtime audio DSP seems like about the last thing that in-browser JavaScript was designed to do well. Janky audio is unnacceptable in a way that janky visuals aren't. It totally kills the experience. Without very strong guarantees abo

If nothing else, why not make the licenses non-transferrable and auction the available licenses? Seems like they're missing out on an easy source of income by letting third parties benefit from the restricted supply.

The really sad thing is how many great ideas must get forgotten because they were developed in secret and didn't align with the commercial interests of the company paying for it.

Thanks for the advice and references. Some great starting points there. I hadn't thought of checking out local universities, but will definitely try to do that!

You are free to use one of the many tableview helper libraries if you aren't happy with the tradeoff between flexibility and convenience that the built-in API makes. You could argue that the frameworks should ship with such a wrapper,

You're thinking of the Objective-C runtime, which in fact is opensource: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/objc4/objc4-551.1

For many developers, the cross-platform API that they care about is Unity or some equivalent. They will continue to be cross-platform and get a free speedup from the removal of an unnecessary layer of abstraction.

Anyone know how Swift might achieve its claimed speedup vs. Objective-C? I can't see how it could get the advertised numbers without method inlining, which appears to be incompatible with the dynamic object model that it inherits from

If you have certain religious beliefs then the concept of NoBeef or NoPork is an important one. I guess that databases must be the same for some people.

Presumably yes if it uses native APIs. On iOS, although .nib files are supported, people tend to prefer Ruby DSLs to define interfaces though. I imagine that something similar will happen on Android. Expect that it won't be long before

There would be a moral case to answer if this class exposed OS functionality that is otherwise unavailable. This is a convenience class that could easily have been copy-pasted between apps. I don't think that there is a moral case to a

This is a fairly straightforward, boring UI class which you could easily implement yourself, or use one of the many open source replacements[1]. Whatever the reasons for making this API private on the iPhone, I seriously doubt that it'

Anyone care to explain how this is supposed to work? If Chadder don't store or transmit the key, how does the person I'm sending a message to have it? The ambiguity in the way the video explained it makes me a bit suspicious.
