Well seriously, forget about the news too. It's like negativity programming for the brain. See how you feel after a month w/o it.

The amount of "data" (whatever that means) might be small, but it's a highly redundant signal, that's the way it works. You can't compare the two.

I'm normally a fan of Paul's essays, but this one felt a little forced. Maybe not enough "essayer", too much agenda?

I think people are creative at night because the body becomes tired and has less energy to interfere with inspiration.

I find that if you can't keep focussed, that's because you are merely excited but not passionate about your work. When the excitement wears off, you crash. Why do you want to do a startup? What would you do if you didn't need any more money

What I had in mind is more the classic pay services, a là 37 signals and the pro flickr accounts. Currently they work by having a free trial or functionality-limited version. I read somewhere to charge the producers, not consumers of conten

This is spot on, I've wondered about the economics of scarcity for a while. How does it apply to selling accounts for a hot web service? Maybe give them away for free while you're obscure, grant invitation privileges to the early adopters a

I really like the way the price goes up as more sell. I always wanted to try that on pro accounts for web services.

This high school business is all about ego. The popularity thing is just a layer on top of that. Being popular means joining in with the collective ego building. Being good at something that requires honesty (i.e. math, chess) will just get

About ACD: well, that was as a student, not in high school which is what the essay is about, but ok. Could you be more specific about what you mean with "character"?

I knew this before reading the article, but I just can't recall where I got it from. I find it kind of ironic how he provides all this scientific theory as a sort of rationalization of the idea...

I'm not after an implementation (i.e. code) rewrite so much as more of an interface redesign. I think that happens anyway, but at a slower pace than such a radical cut would allow.

Sorry if my tone or style disgusts you, I'm no pg. I'll try and say it more succinctly: I think it's possible to innovate quite a bit, simply by ignoring the status quo to a yet unknown extent. In a worse-is-better way to serve simplicity a

Yeah, that's pretty true (and sad). My main idea is that things we could do better, even if still in several different ways across cultures/companies, would have already emerged, but for the momentum of the legacy interfaces (in the widest
