I don't see how randomness can make anything non-computable. Sure you may not know the exact random numbers but you get a similar enough universe with any other sequence of random numbers. Also continuous doesn't mean uncomputable

In physics you never have measurements differentiating between distance 2 and say 2+10^-20, and that gives enough space to hide any 'bell curve' you want.

You don't have to imagine an ordered grid. If grid unit is small enough (say plank length 1,6 10^-35) and the grid is chaotic, for the distances of ~ 10^-16 that we can measure, everything will look the same in all directions. This hap

No matter how well you eat and get educated, you are not going to be able to do even a fraction of what John von Neumann or Srinivasa Ramanujan were able to do. And very often people like them were able to do that despite all the odds, not

A very important part of this frontier is ability to create genetic copies to see which part of a trait is genetic. It is crazy that we ban research on cloning, and still don't have many clones of successful scientists.

I am saying that so far progress in metaphysics came not from philosophers but from physicists, who actually do experiments or math calculations. Similarly progress in understanding AI will come from people who actually build and experiment

Unfortunately it is not possible to find out new questions or develop new tools by just thinking about stuff. You need to also do something concrete, at which point you cease to be just a philosopher and become also a mathematician, physici

Richard Feynman also did not see value in philosophy, and he was right. The submitted article is a good illustration why. There are two hypotheses: one is that consciousness is essentially a computation, the other that it is an unknowable s

A swamp near seashore is not going to help to provide water for people or agriculture. The whole seashore is covered with swamps like this that do not have any particularly interesting ecosystems.

The default option worked not by conscious thought but by desire for sex. Now we have found a way to decouple that from procreation, so people have to actually think, and they often end up choosing a path that leads to dead end.
