Oh, it's from Alexis King. No wonder it's written so well.

It mostly comes from observing the reality of how tests are used rather than idealism. In a lot of "test-first" codebases, the majority of tests are garbage. All they check is that the code is still structured identically to the o

Here's the thing: 95% of cheaters still suck, even when cheating. Its hard to imagine how people can perform so badly while cheating, yet they consistently do. All you need to do to stand out is not be utterly awful. Worrying about wha

You should try watching the video instead of complaining about it's length. It turns out that it actually takes a bit of time to cover the history of Russia and Germany sufficiently well to explain the situation. Yes, those turn out to

At the very large scale, the universe does not appear to conserve energy. The whole "lambda" in "lambda cold dark matter" is a description of how energy is being added to the universe.

I have to protest. A lot of 3b1b is new. Not the math itself, but the animated graphical presentation is. That's where the value from his channel comes in. He provides a lot of tools to visualize problems in ways that haven't be

This is pretty spot-on. A culture of testing everything will ossify code by not understanding what a "unit" is and amplifying developer churn by testing implementation details instead of the actual units. A culture of just getting

Long enough ago (win95 era) it wasn't part of Windows to sleep the CPU when there was no work to be done. It always assigned some task to the CPU. The system idle process was a way to do this that played nicely with all of the other pr

Of course there's a natural constraint: the type of the function. You can't pass a bigint to a function that expects an int. And if you are just blind casting, it turns out you have a similar bug: you are calling the function with

Why does everyone talk about binary search in terms of arrays? Binary search works with any monotonic function. Looking up a value in a sorted array is just a special case of a monotonic function.

I propose Honey should not make money. There is, in fact, no right to make money by doing whatever you want. Honey should lose massive amounts of money and be shut down. Theft is not a business model that needs to be protected.

Segfaults in production are the good case. They're when the system recognizes you've made a mistake and stops it from propagating. The bad cases are when the program keeps running but silently does the wrong things.

A book's cover is a strong signal of its content and quality. You absolutely should judge books by their covers. This isn't an accident. Publishers put a lot of effort into ensuring covers send accurate signals about the contents

I'm uncertain if you think you are contradicting me or are showing others how complex the details of the real implementation are. Either way: Be sure to check out all those relevant rewrites in the RULES pragma a few lines further!

Of course, that's not actually the implementation in GHC. When you start writing code that's used everywhere, it pays off to learn and use every optimization available. And the list fusion optimizations are relevant on both sides.
