One of my first C programs wrote straight into the BIOS memory (1989 iirc). The machine froze and refused to reboot. We had to remove the BIOS battery to reset the BIOS. Luckily, the battery wasn't soldered to the main board.

Germany has very high taxes and seems yet unable to maintain clean free restrooms. I can relate for countries with income taxes around 10%, but for taxes much higher than that free restrooms should be affordable. I currently visit Australia

I prefer the Optional.of and Optional.ofNullable approach. Analogous there should be URL.of and URL.ofChecked, the latter for potentially unkown input. Same for Charset.

ThreadLocal can be another problem. Tomcat kills and recreates threads for this reason. Edit: another one is swapping code by swapping class loaders. That can retain static references in the runtime class loader.

I'm German and I hate this. The icing on top: Excel separates function arguments with a semicolon in German locale, too. Got me some head scratching. Examples are separated with comma, iirc.
