Lion Air asked, Boeing declined. Of course some person at Lion Air asked and some person at Boeing declined. That doesn't make a difference. These persons where talking for Boeing.

Here in Germany there is a big TV ads campaign by Apple focusing on privacy. At least their marketers seem to believe that there is a large enough groundswell to justify a campaign.

They had however incidents involving underfueled machines. And there's the problem for Boeing: They better make sure that no more MAX's fall out of the sky due to their fault otherwise airlines will skip the machines. What would h

On the other hand carbon chemistry is the center of expertise for biochemists. They hardly know anything else. As well, carbon chemistry is rich under earth conditions (temperature and pressure wise). We simply don't know for others.

Who gets to decide who are terrorists and who are not? And based on what evidence? For very good reasons we have due process for that when it comes to our judicial system. As well the killings proceeded by the US are outside established int

I have much trouble to understand what is meant by the "browse-up" scenario. If it's "don't use devices being able to download stuff from the internet" I would deem this extremely impractical advice.

Implicit casts are both convenient and evil. JavaScript deserves its own place for it. I've never understood why any language does this. To save a few keystrokes? Code is much more read than written.

A great deal of (19th century) thermodynamics has its roots in the desire to engineer better steam engines. Entropy as an example has been introduced as an abstract concept to get to engines with better efficiency. Even when statistical the

But that's like telling me "run faster" if I am complaining that I can't run 100m in 10sec. I would think that almost all theoretical work revolves around resolving inconsistencies (such as between quantum field theory a

A tree map is O(n*log n) on inserts, though. For a hash map to be faster, you'd need to trade memory for speed, i.e have significantly more buckets than the expected size. This may however collide with good caching performance which I
