Ah, it's 1/580 MWh per square meter, I completely misread the unit there. Meter per MWh is somewhat unusual in these discusst.

Correct me if I am wrong, but did the author make a calculation error? The number of required energy comes in at the order of 10^20 J or 90000TWh: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input?i=300+quadrillion+BTU+in+... but if I mul

I would argue that stopping to publish these statements is equivalent to announcing that some warrant has been served. So if the latter is a criminal offense, why should the former be legal?

This one: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parametric_polymorphism Note that it's called "parametric" because OO folks stole the word polymorphism for a completely different thing. The idea of a polymorph

I wouldn't say that C++ templates use monomorphization, because there are no polymorphic functions to begin with. Monomorphization, as in "the standard FPL technique", comes after type checking. C++ template specialization

Template specialization sometimes looks like monomorphization, but it is really a different thing. I would compare C++ templates more macros, as they tend to do way more (e.g., allow for overload resolution).

"Beyond" in the sense of "after". Languages that support separate compilation usually have some sort of artifacts that do not need to be type-checked anymore. Say, you compile an Ocaml module. The result is a compiled (b

I have a hunch that rusts global compilation model (as opposed to C++ separate compilation, as crippled as it is in practice due to header-only libs and link times) should always lead to C++ scaling better with the size of the project. Si

Come to think of it, the tidally locked orbit kind of makes such a supply seem obvious, doesn't it? I mean it's like a big fat "send power here" sign.

Interesting design. I agree 99% with the choices. My only disagreement would be about not being able to overload binary operators. I wonder how the type system handles the inherent overloading of * for floats and integers. Besides this mino

It is the problem. Removing device support is akin to revoking the license. Google sold this license, demands some harsh conditions on devices and DRM but then doesn't care about keeping up its own part of the deal. Imagine buying

I said it before, but I'll repeat myself: For digital possessions, we need a clearing house. Everyone offering music, videos, etc. for sale or long-term rent, needs to register a digital copy in a standardized format with said clearing

I came to the conviction that digital artworks, any form of digital property, really, needs a public clearinghouse. You simply shouldn't be allowed to sell any digital license for a product you didn't register at that clearinghous
