Same. I figure youve only got some much glycogen in your body, and so youve got to replenish it during/after exercise. Do you exercise regularly? If so how does your appetite feel between sessions (while youre recovered)?

Yeah I believe it. I cycle like 100 miles a week on an entry level road/gravel bike... And Id say my hunger oscillates between large extremes from it. I definitely crave horrible sugary food and salt from doing like a 3h ride... but be

My first thought as well! From the title I was intrigued to see how CL was being used for this.

This is definitely a problem! Having a large set of interests and problems to draw examples and intuition from are how I deal with it. I suspect this is why so many mathematicians are also into physics.

I think a lot of circularity occurs in mathematics because we don't typically qualify our utterances when it can be implicitly understood. Eg "Numbers (formal) are those objects which behave like numbers (informal)."

My version is just: Tensors allow us to write data and operations on data in a way which does not depend on how we chose to represent them. For example, if I have a vector x in V and a map T from V to W, then I would like the truth of T(x)=

Had this experience working with a bright gen z early academic once. They didn't understand the difference between files in the cloud and on their own drive. Took me about a week before I could even comprehend what their issue was.

its hard to know what the prereqs are when you already know a thing deeply. people wont even agree about what it means to understand the prereqs!

When I tried Krita a few years ago I couldn't imagine using it over things like Clipstudio yet. I am really rooting for Krita though, so Ill probably give it another shot soon.

Honestly I feel like Mathematica is one of the better arguments for the quality of proprietary software. After spending time using it, reading their documentation, and interacting with their support staff, its downright painful by compariso

Probably reflects one's interests more than anything. If you want some easy results you try to work in younger parts of the fields. Or if youre really lucky and a little clever, some of your own novel thoughts might go somewhere intere

Not a bad point! Similarly why dont we have electric heaters doing useful work rather than just jumping that energy immediately?

I think I find viewing at the result of some series to be more satisfying. After seeing series solutions to differential equations, the number e kind of faded into the background of the numerical process that gives us e.

I agree. Almost all of the difficulty is just not getting how mathematicians think or communicate. Honestly I think a lot of effort is wasted starting with this stuff rather than more motivated examples... But the interest is the harder thi

I agree that in principle one ought to be able to do without thinking explicitly about logic, algebra, etc... but is that how it really goes in practice?

Its not immediately practical... but spending a lot time learning a science like math in depth makes learning various applications very easy later. I think sometimes educators have to let people be motivated by some particular application t

Based on my reading you dont seem to fundamentally disagree with the author. I think hes just playing with the ambiguity of the word number for some effect. So: (Some mathematical formalism for) numbers are objects you build to act like the

Probably historical. Modern linear algebra is extremely recent as math goes. Definitely much younger than calculus. Also I would add that linear algebra, calculus, and differential equations all go pretty much hand in hand. We could probabl

CT is almost designed to just wrap up "ugly" details in cute proofs after the fact. I think theres a real danger of students getting a false sense of understanding if they dont know how to contextualize this kind of stuff.
