D-Wave is trying to make use of the quantum properties of matter in order to solve a particular kind of problem. They want to find the ground state (lowest energy) configuration of spins (a non-classical degree of freedom) in a 2D lattice c

I was actually surprised he didn't feel superior to Leibniz. I use Wolfram's products, but I absolutely can't stand the persona.

I have never read Ayn Rand, but I have heard of her before. Why are such quotes inappropriate?

The problem is fascinating in itself, but I don't see why it is classified as an unsolved problem in philosophy . From the article: "The resolution of this problem is in some sense provided by the study of human subjects who gain vision

I would like to be notified when someone replies to my comments. A first-level reply notification is what I have in mind, i.e. don't notify me if someone replies to someone who replied to me...

This thread is full of claims like this... without evidence to back them up. "I know who wrote the protocol, but I can't tell you. Do your homework." "The protocol is years ahead of everything else, but I can't talk about it."

Yes, they are lost. There are thus less bitcoins in circulation, and so their value goes up (it's deflationary).

All I can say is that I've made 6$ on a 50$ investment in two days. That's more than a 10% increase in two days. Problem is, when do I withdraw? This is just a (zero-sum) game, stop taking it so seriously.

Hardware manufacturers should ship their devices with a piece of paper printed with a unique UID and password. Not "admin/1234". The owner would have the ability to change these at will, and resets would revert to the original UID/pw combin

Heh. I have tried to buy BTC for the past two days, but nobody was interested in selling at the last lowest ask price. On the Canadian exchange, it seems as if some people are controlling the market by buying and selling to themselves. I un
