10% of pollen making it to another flower of the same species to do its job actually seems like quite a lot. I would have expected a lot less, actually.

With the new Edge Zdnet articles like this one maybe will be more readable without garbage all over the page.

Those are all great guesses, and I bet all of them come into play. I wonder how many externalities aren't being accounted for yet in the process, like the new landfill Roundup will need to construct to handle all the excess packaging b

The 15 degrees comes from the Earth's rotation, right? Not sure what you're trying to compare here. If I spin in a circle at 1 second per revolution, I guess I can make the sun travel about 2.2 billion miles per hour using your n

I agree. Anything that's not emergent or immediately life saving you should think long and hard about. I had meniscus repair knee surgery in August. Now I have nerve damage that is causing pain in that lower leg. I probably would have

The traditional historian arguments against this really show the lack of rigor inherent in the social sciences, or alternatively, a self-interest bias of some sort. Complaining that “humans can’t be reduced to numbers” completely misses how

Interesting the arms race in the incognito browser wars. One day I can read Bloomberg for free incognito, the next day they detect it. Then a Chrome update and the cycle repeats. Firefox seems to be a little behind in the fight. I do pay fo

Interesting that pension assets make up such a large portion of the 90-99% bracket. That must include self built retirement accounts, IRAs, 401ks, 403bs, etc., and not just traditional defined benefit pensions

I wonder if someone talked to this reporter about a long-term redesign they're doing, and the reporter conflated that with the short term patches they're doing to get the plane flying again. It just doesn't make sense otherwi

That, or this article missed the boat somehow. I find it hard to believe that a total redesign is happening and that they expect to be done by the end of the year. Either this article is wrong, or something is terribly wrong at Boeing.

They're redesigning the architecture and expect to be done by the end of the year? That is insane. The MCAS change was a patch of one fairly isolated system as I understand it. Redesigning the entire architecture of the flight controls

I wonder if there is an incentive to NOT find life there because of what that discovery might do to slow industrialization and colonization plans. Do we need to conserve that life? Do we need to set up preserves that are off limits to devel

Looking at TerraPower's website, they're talking about a prototype by the mid-2020s, and they've already been working for 11 years. Would be nice to see this sped up. The Manhattan Project lasted only 4 years. We spend much m

Would like more info about what law enforcement is doing. It's analogous to old style piracy, and if US ships were being commandeered, the US Navy would be deployed pretty darn quick. What are we doing about this?

Not completely clear how the surveys were done 20 years apart, but the a better way to compare is to survey values every 20 years, and compare generations when they are the same age. Comparing 20yos and 50yos values could include a large ag
