Yes! We have tools to filter what gets saved and compression that handles repeated text very well. So why not provide docs on how to solve the error along with the error.

Don't send people somewhere else to learn how to fix the error. The more steps and indirection you add the fewer people will bother doing it themselves, especially if they can bump it to the developer. Make it easy for people to fix th

On the "Detailed Technology Profile" tab it shows first/last detected date and there's a tick box for "Hide Removed" on the right.

I moved to an ISP that provides a static IP for $5 extra a month. But before that I created a service for looking up my ip address and hosted it for free at fly [1]. Then I setup a script in cron to update my dns every 5min if it had change

That is pretty much it, + everything in one repo so that you can fix bugs anywhere in the stack when encountering them. While "Unix-like core with the look&feel of 1990s productivity software" sounds simple, it's more tha

Super welcoming community + a clear and strong vision to guide the project. Other OS projects I have seen either lack vision (same as x, but written in y), or they are just for the personal learning of the developer who started it.

I wonder if Splunk has a QA problem with their consultants or if there are certain edge cases they simply don't do well with. Just that it looks like most people here had a good experience and we had a bad one for some reason.

There is no need for the executives at Meta to see these documents themselves to derive value from them. A lawyer seeing them and providing a verbal summary is more than good enough when deciding on strategy.

Nope, sports betting. I was on the operations side of things and Splunk was something the corporate side organised and championed, but it just couldn't be used to troubleshoot issues in the time frames we needed.

Interesting, From the general responses it sounds like we got unlucky with a dud implementation.

Maybe we had a bad consultant, I don't know. Splunk were the ones managing and configuring it.

I don't know which version we used, just that it was managed and configured by Splunk. We were only sending a small subset of our logs to it so about 200+ GB a day. Our Linux box with spinning disks could grep the full set of logs much

Interesting, It was Splunk managed and configured, so I would have thought it optimized, but I guess they made more money from it not being optimized. If I remember right then we were throwing about 200+ GB at it a day.

Is Splunk fast now? Last time I used it was almost a decade ago and it was rubbish, queries took 10-40 minutes to complete.

It's really nice for small personal projects where you are not expecting outside contributions. I use fossil for my personal projects and git for work.

You are forgetting the alternative that is no ads.

Nope, Lack of ads IS the killer feature for me. What I use an iPhone for could just as easily be done by Android. If Apple is enthusiastically running towards the ads hellscape then it might be time to get one of those Linux phones and star

I care more about an ad free experience than the privacy angle. Not that I don't value privacy, I do value it highly, just not as highly as avoiding ads.

It has even less than no merit when you consider that the guy is a content creator and the math works out to 8 hour week days with the weekend off. Basically a normal work week.

Well, both sides of politics are talking about updating the privacy act with a significant punitive component, and it can always be made retroactive if Optus is not feeling sorry enough.

It's much cheaper to make a computer check the number than pay the post office to sight and verify ID docs.

Well, it will be whatever you used for your 100 points of ID to open an account to begin with. So most people would have used a drivers license. My guess is that the passports is mostly people without a drivers license.
