Yep, I also spent a huge amount of time trying to get podman rootless containers working. It felt like what fusion progresses looks like, forever “just around the corner”, so I also decided to just stick with docker.

Interesting... My experience has been pretty much exactly the opposite, Docker just works flawlessly and it's the alternatives like podman and systemd that's caused me headaches and countless hours of wasted time.

On the other hand they do get free health care, free uni (if in the right country), a social safety net that you can actually live decently on and other services.

If you only need a few graph queries then you could just use SQLite, it’s capable of doing it (I have done it before). But writing graph queries in SQL is painful, so I wouldn’t do it if you need more than a handful.

Or they could have ported their Ruby to Crystal. That would have given the same benefits of Go when it comes to runtime, but with the benefit of only needing to do minor refactoring of the code instead of a full rewrite.

I don't think this has anything to do with what they can afford at all. More like someone in leadership thinks Node is cool and collected a bunch of unvalidated reasons to support it.

I have switched over to using you.com for search. Been using it for a few months now and I almost never have to go back to Google for general search. The only kind of search that I consistently need to use google for is looking up the meani

I can almost see both sides here... But ultimately when you are using someone else's resources, then not respecting their wishes (within reason) just makes you an asshole.

It's nice you don't have set it up yourself, but it's hardly difficult to do in a shell script.

You know shell scripts can have functions right? And nice stuff like command/options parsing + nice help messages.

Yeah, so specifically for Midjourney, but the others should have something similar: 0. Read the manual thoroughly, don’t speed read or skim. 1. Set the seed so that it’s only your prompt that changes while iterating on it “——seed **” 2. Set

There are lot's of kernels written in higher level languages (including languages with a GC). Really, if you start searching for them then you will find several every day for weeks if not months.

It's Midjourney (you can tell from the way weights and parameters in the prompts are done). But yes, would be nice if they said it.

Midjourney will do that easily if you get good at doing the prompts. Getting good takes reading the manual and spending a few hours working on 2-3 designs.

That makes sense with client/server databases and if you are trying to separately manage database resources from app resources. When you use SQLite you have basically decided that the database and the app is one integrated unit that yo

I prefer SQLite's flexible types for a small settings table (other tables I will setup as strict). Anyway, it's nice having multiple options of how to do things.

It all depends upon what you are trying to do. If you want to store lot's of json data then yes, JSONB is the better option. As for the MERGE and INSERT ON CONFLICT vs INSERT OR REPLACE, they all work differently, they are not the same

LiteFS is meant to get write forwarding in an upcoming release, so you could use maybe use that to sync, assuming the writes are less than about 10/s.

Yep, one full copy of the DB on each app server. So yes, it's bad if your data is 100s of GB, but if you only have in the low 10s GB of data or less then it's fine. It all depends upon how many server you need to run your app, If

I haven't tried LiteFS yet, but as far as I understand, you still get the embedded performance for reads, and on the primary node you get that for writes as well. SQLite can do things PostgreSQL can't. Like the "insert or rep
