I have been paying for premium for a while now. The killer feature for me is larger file uploads.

Using Discord also results in a lot of zealots who are unpleasant to interact with self-filtering by staying away.

I think it's just different people having different preferences. For me, Discord is the best group chat app I have ever used. The UI is fantastic.

Nope, every PWA I have used ended up loosing data. They are universally shit across all devices/os I have tried.

“it's impossible to develop when you can only build 200 times per month” Seriously??? I am not a mobile developer, but that statement is totally bullshit. I regularly code for 20-60min between running a build. I highly doubt I get anyw

I have yet to try an “installed” PWA on any device that actually worked correctly when I needed it most, so I will take a shitty electron or web view wrapper app over a PWA any day.

30 days is way too short. In my experience, people either realise that they accidentally deleted a file immediately or after 3+ months. The day 2-90 period is rarely where a file needs to be recovered from.

And yet, every single security system on the net relies on an element of obscurity to work. Passwords are secret (obscure), as are private keys for SSL/TLS.

Yep, I never really trusted managed databases. It just feels like one of those things that's so important to your app that not having full control of it is weird.

The fragmentation really has broken the on-demand promise of being able to watch what you want when you want.

Because you need an S3 compatible API? I use ZFS for most of my things, but I have yet to find a good way of just sharing a ZFS dataset over S3.

It seems perfectly meritocratic to me. I mean it’s consistent with how the word “meritocratic” is always used. I have never seen a system that was actually based on skill or effort be described as meritocratic. Likewise I have never seen a

That statement very much reads like they aren't willing to license unless they get final say on products using the tech. Which sounds quite unreasonable as a condition for patent licensing.

Yeah, OpenCV is really easy to work with and use in quick scripts to process images. I have used it to group images of the same subject/angle, then remove the most blurry ones.

Don’t use glibc… I am of course partially joking. But seriously, use musl libc, build static binaries, build the images from scratch, and have a CI server handle it for you to keep it updated. Alternatively use a small image like Alpine as

Exactly, Docker + Compose is the best way of running server software these days. I keep my compose files in source control and I have got a CI server building images for anything that doesn’t have first party images available. Updates are s

I can't think of a single example of an unsuccessful fork of a large project caused by a monetization change. So I am not convinced that success is the exception for that case.

I am using USB disks with ZFS connected to a standard cheap office PC as my storage server. It still provides plenty of benefits over ext4.

"For small $50 charges? No way." Why not? If the phone companies here can extend that courtesy to normal consumers then I find it ridiculous to suggest that a cloud provider couldn't afford to do the same.
