Here in Vancouver BC Canada, we do have data caps but it appears to have been only $10 CAD ($7 US) to upgrade to unlimited for that month. Hence, it's not a massive issue other than in principle to some. Currently there are two compani

Bonus points if this results in mis-clicking something dangerous or irreversible, like "delete", "cancel","post","send", "close", "exit without saving" or the like.

Type-C cables have an E-Marker IC inside them by design, so this would probably render the cable non-functional or worse-functional unfortunately.

On my iPhone I find everything up to maybe 0.6 seconds to be just fine. Part of this may be being used to using SSH over VERY poor network connections. I think the biggest frustration with latency is not the latency itself, but rather when

Is this how the eBay phone unlocking services work? Usually they say something about servers and "sending your IMEI to the server" etc, and sometimes it can take a certain number of hours.

Generally the higher the voltage you distribute, the lower the current in the wires, allowing you to use thinner wire and reducing I^2R losses. With this said, having multiple point of load converters may have impacts on efficiency and will

It looks like they did have these. In one of their pictures there was a stack of Anker PowerHouse power banks/battery packs.

My iPad Pro 12.9 smart keyboard also failed in this way. Fortunately the Apple store replaced it for free (Vancouver BC Canada) saying there was a quality program about these keyboards. Apparently it is not the connector, but the flex cable

This is my personal opinion, after seeing this teardown. If you look at some of the images it looks like the actual contact areas on the PCB that the metal domes contact on are rather small, and both the dome and the contacts look like they

Sort of an aside, but I do sort of wonder what goes into the decision to go with Freescale/QNX as opposed to allwinner/rockchip/MTK and Android in this application. Surely the cost would be similar or less, and the performanc

I have both types of keyboards (pre-2016) and the 2016 Touch Bar 15" MacBook. In my experience there are about three failure modes, some of which you can fix by yourself. However, since the keyboard replacement program started I just s

I bought this, it looks very nice and the UI has a very high level of polish to it. I'm trying to use this with WebViews to hack together a multi-window, multi-tab browser thing, not sure if this is something that exists already. The m

Some of the examples do not work well on mobile (iPad Pro). The UI elements are a tad small to hit accurately on a touch screen and elements which require scrolling don't scroll as expected such as the forms to be filled in.

IIRC until the recent fix they pushed in a macOS update for the new i9 models, MacBook Pros don't have any of their power limits set (or have them on the defaults at 100W). The processor runs at full turbo, until the CPU gets to 102 C

Anecdote: A testing account on fb @mailismagic.com (mailinator) has been up for 2 years now and has never required any form of verification. I wonder why this may be. The name on the account is very common, however.

The rear fan appears to be shared with the CPU fan. This is actually not a bad design in my opinion, many Dell OptiPlexes from around 2002-2009 were built with a similar design. By putting the fan farther from the grille, they can reduce th

The motor for the dryer also needs to power the fan that draws air through the unit. Without anything attached to the shaft, I previously measured the no-load power of the electric motor to be 200W. I would expect the full load current to b

I have the 2016 version of the machine, base model, and it throttles. Not nearly as badly as anything else in it's thinness class, but the CPU can only run at 37w as measured by Power Gadget under p95 with fans forced to 6500rpm. PC ma

Here in Canada Apple charges about $250 CAD to change the set of battery/topcase in a MBP Retina 13 from 2015. I think that's not a bad price considering you get a new keyboard, casing, and trackpad.

I'm not entirely sure if the problems with the keyboard are simply inherent. The gap between the keys on the new one and the frame is simply tiny, and since the key doesn't move, and because the key hits the bottom when pressed, a
