Many users can't modify HOSTS on work computers, etc but can install an extension. Hosts file is a real pain to disable/enable, at least quite a bit worse than clicking one button in your browser. I do something very similar to ho

I know it's been a while, but I still cant get over the azure outage that lasted almost a full day in 2012.

Wow. That is extremely impressive that such a large company is able to get a fix out that quickly.

Never trust somebody else to make sure your certificate is renewed. Case in point: Even Azure had a huge outage due to cert issues (abeit quite a bit more complicated than a simple expiration, but my point here is that certificates are

I'm blown away that the solution for this has been the shitty "local playlist sync" solution for years at this point. I guess I'm in a niche? For me, there are tons of hiphop mixtapes that will never be on Spotify that

These communities are my favorite on the internet. One of the most insane things is how active the userbase is (granted, inactives are pruned.) But on my favorite trackers, it's common to see 33% of users logged in within 24h, somethin

I use plex to share home movies which were ripped from DVD (and converted earlier from VHS) 100% legally (although the MPAA is probably trying to make it illegal to record home movies these days too /s)

Even EV certs don't really matter. Case in point: https://stripe.ian.sh/ Let's Encrypt isn't the problem here. Expecting all CAs to properly verify what is and isn't a phishing website is unreasonable IM

+1 here. Buying used professional grade gear is the way to go. I just built a fileserver with better passmark than threadripper for 700 dollarydoos (plans for lots of concurrent transcodes), and got ECC ram to boot.

This seems like massive overkill, but it doesn't look like OP actually cared about money, given the $400 VESA mount and the $159 (wat) custom PSU cables. Also surprising that one would spend that much money only to get a little bose

Not just cameras. They have agents on the ground spying on you too! Or... they have a security team who monitors cameras and have loss prevention specialists roaming the store. Depends on how you want to spin the wording.

Pump and dumps as well as these groups were definitely around in 2012. I agree that cryptocurrencies have drastically changed (IMO for the worse) but pump and dumps on shitcoins are nothing new.

I think you're vastly underestimating the potential impact to cloud providers. Azure/AWS/GCP all definitely have extra capacity, but they have forecasting down to a science. Requiring even 10% more capacity is quite a large u
