As mentioned in another comment, the use of 'auto' isn't just to shorten an unwieldy type name. > The primary use-case of auto returns is for templated functions where the return type depends on the thing passed in.

One of the problems is that whatever you happen to be focusing on, you also have to be able to react quickly to potential hazards. I'm pretty sure (guessing) that being not particularly focused on the road is still significantly better

I can't even think of a language that has first class complex numbers, let alone complex number literals.

Another interesting thing is how the size of the apple affects the flavor. My local super market sells two sizes of Fuji apples, 'Large' and 'Lunchbox'. For whatever reason, the large ones have exponentially better flavo

Reading this reminded me of an article I read a little while ago talking about the tradeoffs "biohackers" take on to try to get ahead on relatively untested techniques[0]. It seems a little silly to think that shocking your brain

I really wish we had a proper 'web assembly' instruction set to compile to. JavaScript has proved itself to be a surprisingly adequate language over the years, but there is only so much optimization you can do with its language sp

This is really interesting considering that if you just memorize a sufficiently long string of random Base 3 numbers you can't lose more than 50% of the time, but with any discernible strategy you use to gain an edge there is a counter

I found the Rust video pretty informative. Rust, for better or worse, is already pretty complex, but this gave a really nice high level overview of some of its more important features.

The video certainly doesn't predate the IO monad, but the point was that Haskell was designed as an academic language with zero emphasis on practicality, and has grown in usefulness over time.

Coming from a JS/Mongo background rather than Rails, I was completely expecting a Collection.find() of some sort. Why should a product know how to find itself?

This type of spam seems like the comment equivalent of "native advertising", where the goal is to trick the reader into believing that it is organic content when really the point is to sneak a brand impression upon them.

This is probably obvious to anyone with a legal background, but does this carry any weight? Or is it just a gentleman's agreement that could turn into a lawsuit if you make them angry enough?

I also don't understand why VCs pick companies that are clearly courting a huge lawsuit by providing a platform for people to ignore local laws.

Depending on how carefully you want to track how you eat, I would recommend dropping the weight loss to ~1lb per week (~500 calories under TDEE). Any faster than that and you'll probably be sloughing off whatever muscle you already hav

The deal with having string literals not be delimited by actual characters is that you don't have to escape characters. What you see is what you get.

Lambdas are not particularly complicated, but the way to make them simple is to compare to other language's implementation, not other C++ features.

I find that for me, Spotify is really only good if I already know exactly what I want to listen to. Also, it's ads are incredibly loud compared to the music sometimes. Hopefully Soundcloud doesn't follow that aspect.
