It says that alloc() is O(1) and thus real-time...but then later on says that advance() must be called k times per alloc in order to avoid exhausting the free space while still having work on the gray list. This makes it not quite real-time

I had a lot of fun going through incredible.pm/ which is gamified writing set theory proofs. Following along with Software Foundations[0] also teaches you how to use the Coq proof assistant and write proofs in it, which I found enterta

I'm not sure what you mean; it is documented in the Intel instruction set reference that IRET is a serializing instruction. It is not only the case that it happens to appear that way due to stores by chance always being retired before

For the record: Returning from an interrupt is fully serializing on x86, which I believe means that all modern operating systems on x86 will handle this properly. https://pvk.ca/Blog/2019/01/09/preemption

I go into a bit in https://github.com/chc4/lineiform/issues/19 , but it's less a problem with its optimizer and more a problem with its IR constraints. Cranelift specifically has some rules about `iflags`

(I'm the author) As part of lifting you convert the x86 instructions into an IR so you can do optimization passes. This is how I was using Cranelift as a codegen backend; there is essentially an abstract interpreter over x86 that feeds

(I'm the author) Rust closures store a function pointer for the closure body. I'm using yaxpeax, which is a fast x86 disassembler made by one of my friends, in order to turn the function pointer into an x86 instruction stream. The

Working from home was very bad for both my productivity and my mental health. Going in and seeing coworkers every day as mandatory social interaction is a godsend, and I now know I don't want to work for any company that is 100% WFH. T

Not as a language feature. You can setup your code in a way that will cause LLVM to emit identical output as if you did have computed gotos, but there's no guarantee as to it.

Yup, https://github.com/chc4/lineiform . It's not usable at all yet - I was building it on top of Cranelift, which turned out to be a fairly bad idea, so I'm going to have to essentially rewrite all of it with

Quite a lot of terminal emulators support 24bit TrueColor escape codes, so it might be worth using that along with a color space designed for visual intensity corrolation (there's a lot of study in this for e.g. heatgraphs for maps)
