Glad to see industry adopting cloud server + ssh + code-server / code-remote as a standard. As a PhD student I have been working on HPCs like this with an environment I built myself for a while. It is really good and helps you to move

My colleague are still using KNL cpus on Stampede2 to run molecular dynamics simulations. They are just “cheap” in terms of job accounting, because there unloved because they are old and cannot catch up with state of art AMD cpus today. But

I do encounter weird Wi-Fi issues on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro. Not sure if it is related to this bug. Sometimes I am just unable to load any web pages, but I can ping those sites. I have to reboot it regularly to reconnect to the internet. Th

Same here. 747s are everywhere in the literature I grew up with. They are also in news, games and films. But when I actually grown up, the time of those planes have lapsed. Now due to visa limitations, I am even harder to travel internation

This sounds exactly like Canonical's doing these days. Recently found I was asked to teach a workshop to help student use Kenya's KENET vlab, it is a vm platform from Kenya's education network, to run our program. Their syste

I have seen JAX-MD[1] but not sure about "much better". On the other hand, there is just no MD implemented with PyTorch. [1]: https://github.com/jax-md/jax-md

I indeed found pink noise more comfortable than white for me. The explanation around frequency makes a lot of sense.

Thanks, this is great resource, I am hoping to start some hobbyist project on these MCUs. My previous experience is purely software side. Hope I can get some idea of low level protocols such as displaying through I2C etc.

On the field of PDF parsing, I think the most interesting project I encountered is pdfquery[1], where the PDF is parsed as a XML tree and you can use XPath to query it. You might encounter rough edges when put it into production work but th

I know people are exploring this front currently. Basically you could use results from DFT+U to train the potential; but I am also told that strongly correlation can now be better described by SCAN functionals better than LDA+U etc so it wo

There is path-integral MD with imaginary time you can use to address quantum effects such as tunneling when you have protons in the system. But yeah, basically are still doing ionic dynamics and ignoring the electrons. The electronic effect

Well in MD you always have to compare to experimental measurements from a macroscopic level. And you have to repeat DFT results as far as you can do DFT on it.

In case HN readers doesn’t know, ML based MD scales O(N) and traditional DFT based simulation O(N^3) where N is number of atoms. From first hand experience: what used take weeks with traditional DFT MD on CPUs are only taking few minutes wi

The five free machines remind me of Portainer. For personal dev machines, I would actually prefer Arch over Ubuntu. I wonder how long people would switch off Ubuntu because of these; now, I hope the sooner, the better.
