Yes, the OCR problem is also very interesting to me. I have been looking into the OCR/labeling field recently, and it seems to still be an actively researched field. There is a surya-ocr that was recently posted to YC, transformer-base

I feel this tool is in the same space as [Eagle][1] and some other image organizers. On another note, I feel it would be good if it could be used in combination with S3-based storage so one can use it to manage his/her online photo

When you start to do bibliographic references / cross references word processor documents start to get messy. Zotero/Mendeley doesn’t do well. My professor, who insisted on using Word, often accidentally tripped on macro field, ch

Most of the time, I just use it to scrape original data from screenshots taken from research papers where the data is not provided as a table. I would say 7/8 of these figures are scatter plots from experimental measurements.

Great to see new tools in this space. So far we have been using WebPlotDigitizer, it has recently released new versions that stopped being open source but moved to be a paid software, requiring login, plastered with AI advertising terms. h

It wasn’t uncommon to buy second hand AC and sell them after use in the NYC. In fact, I barely heard anyone buy new ACs. I guess not everyone has no problem throw those appliances out.

I have thought about using tessaract, using it to OCR the TOC and generate something like this. But there are just so many edge cases that make the whole process fail. For example, how do you handle it if the title breaks into two lines? Wh

I have been thinking about this, but for a while now, I have settled on using ChatGPT's GPT-4v's multimodal capability to generate a text file containing the titles and pages based on screenshots of the TOC. After that, I used a p

TBH Hertz having EV is a good thing for me as a customer because they are cheap. It’s difficult to rent a gas car for $50/day near NYC but they are renting out EV at this rate. Although recharging is a hustle, I tried several times and

I remember when I designed a list of checkboxes this case was specifically considered. The last one needs to be updated when all of the checkboxes above are checked or one of them is unchecked.

With iCloud Apple indeed handles well update conflicts in Apple Notes. I have tried to set up Obsidian or any other Markdown-based notetaking system, the sync is so often and I had to give up. Apple Notes does handle this pretty well. So I

Of course, a lot of this is about coding on paper. I would wonder if it is possible to run the projection on screen instead. Say I have three iPads; their placement can likely be some input. The projection will not get a resolution comparab

I feel like this will be super interesting when pairing with static site generator such as eleventy. Using static site generator is sometimes difficult because of lacking a web backend and ghost is too heavy for me.
