You don't really have control of any of the hardware on AWS, and therefore they can track everything you do. (If they say they don't, you just have to trust them - there's never a real way to verify) If you're fine with

I think the point is that most of this, other than buying extra hard drives, is solved by having a decent FOSS project. For example, an OS that has a nextcloud-like suite of services, and a very easy to use GUI to enable a VPN / mesh n

Use headscale on your own VPS and that should quench the concerns you have.

I seriously doubt this. In what scenario is this actually true?

I wouldn't discourage anyone from home hosting really. It's getting to be pretty clear that it's cheaper, far better for privacy concerns, and gives you much more control. It seems that companies are beginning to ramp up the

I actually like tokens that are kept completely separate, but are tracking something like storage or compute used/spent. This way you can trade encrypted web storage of an app you want to deploy (large dataset for ML training for exam

I'm really confused by this statement. The vast majority of people are probably running: Windows, Mac os, Ubuntu, arch, (then others). All of those support docker - the only ones I can think of that don't are freebsd (mostly peop

What's interesting about it is that it may show some evidence of synesthesia being education or culture dependent. Using base10 for numbers is taught at an early age, when the brain is forming a huge number of associations for learning

I like the idea of making a binary file into a plaintext file - but you could store it as the ASCII characters "0000110100111011110001111100101..." This would be great for many reasons. At the top of that list for example, is gett

I haven't quite been able to fully adopt brave for several reasons, but one simple one is it's (seemingly) lack of no-script like granularity of js blocking. I know it has the block script toggle, and can be expanded to each scrip

How do you ensure that the client has docker though? Make a cross compiled binary that downloads and installs docker and then runs your image for them? Run it through a browser on another server? The starting point there leads to similar

Use Session. It's just as easy, and more secure + decentralized. So it's better in just about every way.

Session is fantastic - definitely the best messaging system I have seen so far. Signal in second place due to the phone number tracking and non decentralized status stated above.

This is really fantastic. Nim is a beautiful language for getting very performance code easily. Also, there's some really nice projects that use Nim out there - I believe nitter.com and teddit.com use Nim, which are much better than us

Ah, yes. Things are so terrible now. Definitely not like the days in which http didnt have TLS, and NFS was used over the internet. All credentials and secrets free of any in transit encryption. Much more secure back then.

I don't know anything about C++ really, but I have been interested in learning it several times. The biggest deterrent for me has been the huge number of languages that you have to know to learn c++ it seems. Every new version comes

I find this exceedingly hard to believe. Around 2009-2010, btc was definitely not an "asset" (like the bafoons try to treat it now). It * was a currency* . Many still believe in the idea that (certain, less well know) crypto ca

Aren't many bash programs written in C? So this is implying Julia is somehow faster than C? Obviously that can't quite be true, but I can definitely imagine that the algorithms implemented in Julia could be fast faster than other
