I almost made a similar point but didn't want to be too long-winded. But you're exactly right on. Certain idioms develop in every language. In Java there's a culture of favoring verbosity over cleverness. In fact, I think

This is one of those criticisms that sounds right if you know a little bit about the topic, and is certainly clever enough in and of itself to make the reader think that it's making a good point. But it's not making a good point.

Um, one small difference, you have to be a resident of Alaska for at least a year, intend to remain a permanent resident and not be absent more than 180 days without a valid reason. [1] [1]: http://pfd.alaska.gov/Eligibility

This is an awesome project, and I'm really impressed at a quality automatic adjustable desk for so cheap. I almost can't believe it. The website looks great, too, however it has one big problem for me: I felt frustrated to have

I see this complaint a lot. It seems highly correlated to the broadening of HN's voter base. If new users are not taught by existing users what the existing users like and think should be upvoted, then what is upvoted will naturally

I voted in the poll, because it was there, but I will not upvote the post because I don't think it's a good poll. I don't see what there is to be accomplished by this poll. Why do I /need/ to upvote the post?

This article is misleading on several accounts (as others of its type often are). - Yes, initial payload size matters. But where's the true comparison about what each app is loading? How are the features and the UX? Would a power use

"Show HN" is already kind of meta, so this definitely strikes me as meta-meta. I think the main problem here is the post title: "We did a SHOW HN and it landed on the front page of Hacker News" . Good for you. Really

I use Mac, not Windows, so I'm sure I see them rendered quite differently than you, but I prefer Source Code Pro.[1][2] They are extremely similar and I agree nothing else comes very close. It's the lower-case 'i' that

I worked at a place where we tried practicing the principle of the 30% demo. We had one additional point -- at 30%, you should have rough "end-to-end" progress. This made a drastic difference in how early we were able to assess a

All this shows to me is how useless it is to compare by "cost per user". The note at the bottom says "Facebook acquired WhatsApp for 16 billion dollars, the largest startup acquisition to date. Cost per user was comparable
