The title and some of the critics are unfortunate but this post nevertheless is hitting a soft spot for me. I've been through backbone & angular and I'm starting to question the necessity of a full blown framework when all I w

That's a very good point. Going to vote has a draining effect, especially in communities with poor voting culture, which can count for many more votes than the simple linear 1 + n effect of your participation. It also has an effect on

I usually don't pay attention to who's who on HN but last week there was an interesting debate on the status of semantic web, and the name "mindcrime" stuck as I appreciated his comments a lot. Always a bit of a shock to

Re 2.5) 2.6) and 2.7) In order to categorize things that enables you to communicate the idea, you need a common denominator that is universal & neutral enough to rely on. I think there's on place where this work is already done for

I was generally not bad at physics but I remember not getting my head around this one... What a great lesson for decoupling systems. I wonder what's the software equivalent in design pattern land. The facade maybe ?

The uses is a very interesting question because the first things that pops to mind : it would be totally useless without the proper tools to take advantage of it. Basically the web is a flatland with many arrows going from one doc to the ot

I was aware of it but I find it's the 'minimum syndical' as you put it in french. A real way of embracing the semantic web would be, for example, to expose a LinkData compatible subset of their indexed content (a la dbpedia).

Good ideas don't always follow a linear path. The buzz around semantic web probably didn't mesure at the time all the obstacles it would find on its way. Agreeing on categories is one of them but IMHO, the biggest one is legacy co

I don't think there's any use of a heavy pattern in there, it's just leveraging the basic OO idea of state. My rule of thumb is to use class methods as factories to initialize your object in a certain way, which is quit consi
