Speaking of which; when advising to use multiple domains should really mention not to go overboard on the number you use. Too many alternative domains and you will get a new warning from yslow. Every time you pull from a new domain, this wi

Yes, it is presumptuous. Do you think that Rails could make every & any website in the world faster? Looking at http://www.alexa.com/topsites for example, which of those would you think Rails could make faster?

Expiry headers can just as easily be setup in your apache config and I can't think of any modern language that can't access file modification times. A simple config for multiple resource domains is nice; but I'm not a fan of helper function

Yes, the title is very misleading. As for the op protesting its because Rails makes its easy to do those things then surely that should be reflected in the name of submission - 'Built in Rails functionality helps page load' I would also say

Strange approach, surely as the code base ages they will be left with large numbers of these 'flags' that are pretty much redundant

seems they have problems if the same url is used more than once.. the subsequent additions all break .. you can get around it by adding a query string on to the domain your shortening like ?like=this

It's not about caring .. It's about how you want to experience the internet. Would you rather have clear, readable content or be besieged by advertising .. On sites target devs you should really expect very high % to be using ad blockers ..

I think my favourite anti ie6 is google landing page with the big download chrome image. Just a shame so many ie6 people have IT overlords that mandate its use .. hopefully that will change as more convert to windows 7.

I don't think that's what was meant ... If youre on a host that has half the cpu but 3 times the RAM then more processes are queued. During a heavy load the larger RAM will mean more threads can be handled as there is space to store them in

The old axiom "Failing to plan is planning to fail" comes to mind. I wouldn't say sell yourself short but always be realistic. For example if its a deadline you want to give for a project will take 2 weeks, build in some space for running o

how about a more random one... use version control on the disk and do a clean checkout on boot.. big overhead to store the repo and probably not too fast to checkout .. but on the plus side you can include specific files as time goes on ...

Like yourself, I have one and don't use it. Main reason is that I can never remember the identifier. That is OpenIDs big flaw... How many average web users do you know that remember a url? Most of them head to google to find sites they know
