One of the faculty at my university has conducted some detailed analysis on the practice of electronic voting in the US. I believe this is the most up-to-date publication on the subject: https://cse.sc.edu/~buell/Public

That would suggest that there is such a thing as a "good" analytics company. From my perspective as and end user, why would it be desirable for me to facilitate the "analytics companies" business model? Sure, far-reachin

As someone who has tried various Linux distros, switched to Mac, switched back to Linux, and finally settled on OpenBSD, I will weigh in. I moved away from Mac due to issues with hardware quality, and also the poor quality of recent macOS r

I agree with the general sentiment in the comments that this is good -- fingerprinting in particular is something browser vendors should be trying to combat. I am concerned about the approach however; a simple blacklist of fingerprinting sc

A lot of other people have made some fantastic points here, so I won't harp on "putting random crap in ~/ bad!" any further. However, since it has not been mentioned, I would like to shout out to the Python "appdirs

I think everyone who become proficient in shell tries to implement something large in it, gets burned, and realizes that it’s a bad idea. I certainly had that experience.

It depends. I don’t think there is a language which is categorically the best. The solution to a given problem may be harder or easier to express in different languages. Some problems are better solved in C, some in Python, ..., and some in

Yeah, I did not include anything without at least some recent development. AROS and plan9 both got cut for that reason. I was on the fence about including ReactOS but wound up not including that either.

If you're doing it right, you are solving very different problems with shell vs any other language. Shell is best used as a tool for orchestrating other programs, you should not be implementing your programs in shell. Syscalls, in gene

This reminds me a lot of fsn[1] (the file manager shown in Jurassic park in the classic "It's a UNIX system" scene). There is also a clone for more modern systems called fsv[2]. 1 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wi

Depending on what type of diagram I need, I use one of: 1. LaTeX + TikZ - if my diagram is simple or lends itself well to the TikZ syntax, I can usually get it done quickly and have it look professional. 2. Graphviz - if I'm drawing an

Looks like a great idea. However as someone who spends all day in vim, I wish it had an option for vim bindings or at least some kind of modal interface.

This looks fantastic! One feature I would like to see in a service like this would be support for custom domains. Personally, I would be willing to pay extra for such a feature. It’s nice to have control of the domain for personal work, but
