I don't see your point of academia and about hiring from the community? What I see on Github is as professional as it can get. Issues, discussions, triage, review, CI-tests for example. Maybe you started too early, before Julia was set

What a nice PR reply Pichal is delivering here. There might be 1'300 brands and 24'000 devices, but all are bound to the Google conditions. This is not choice. Phone makers may be free to also pre-install competing apps alongside

With Pkg(3) you can lock library versions (including standard library). As the Julia API won't change in 1.x it won't break after upgrading. You should be fine. On the other hand, as far as I understand, 1.0 means that the API is

For me, "ethics" is a too strong word for this discussion.

It wouldn't be "unethical" if it is plain that there is a machine involved. Google could e.g. say something like 'hi, google assistant here' and clarify the situation (and give a human person the choice to proceed).

The deadpan voice would fall back on you, a computer won't care. But I agree with what I suppose you want to point out, that ethics is not the relevant criterium.

+1. About two years ago I switched to gitea but then switched back. gogs has (had?) slightly less features but seemed more polished. No issues since then, I'm glad to run again the original.

In that case please try to be polite at least. Your answers (in the linked conversation) really don't feel ok. Why not, maybe, think again and, maybe, apologize?
