This is poignant. On Firefox/32bit/Linux/Flash10 I see only the word "Specter" wandering aimlessly on a barren white background. Poor guy.

This is a strange mixture of paranoia and naiveté. On the one hand you suppose that the government's goal is to snoop on everyone, but on the other you ignore that they have already been caught doing that with the willing participation of p

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/318942 Note that the fix is simple enough, just not for your grandma. The HP Mini 1000's are selling well (because they are awesome) so this is kind of a big bug.

Maybe you should organize or something...nah why would you do that with such a fantastic personal healthcare market and rock-solid 401K performance? I kid...partly. But the answer to all your questions is "organized labor."

Can someone with knowledge of the underlying OS mechanisms answer this for me: What is the deal with file access on Windows? In Linux (on the Mac too, I think) I can move, copy and delete files freely, regardless of what applications curren

You can take the font from a web page, use it in Illustrator for printed material (still the bread and butter of foundries), stretch it just a bit so that its no longer in exactly the same proportions, and it becomes very hard to prove wher

Oh Ok I see. It appears (from the dearth of quoted text on the linked article) that they are running both a tracker _and_ a seed. The seeder is for their customers only, because then they don't have to pay for upstream access. The p2p conne

You've mixed together a lot of stuff here. your Foo data type is recursive. I can achieve something similar in C++ without infinite template recursion, but I have to use pointers to do it. (Your Haskell has pointers too, they're just hidden

I don't see how Haskell typeclass methods are any different from C++ overloaded functions in this regard. In both languages you refer to a concrete function by its signature rather than its name. Eg in Haskell you'd have "(+) :: Int ->

Well I think you're conflating the simple operator syntax with broader issues of static typing. There's no reason you couldn't have Haskell-style operators in a Python-like language, where the definition of each operator is given by a metho

Haskell has a neat solution for dealing with operators/infix. - Anyone can define their own operators and set their precedence. - Any operator can be made into a normal prefix function by putting parens around it. x + y = (+) x y - Any func
