There was an MIT Tech Review article on mineral weathering that had quite a bit about this project.

Indeed, but a little care is needed: the key Islamic philosophers had a higher profile in educated thought from the Renaissance to the beginning of the Enlightenment, so the simple fact of Smith citing Al-Ghazali is less significant in itse

I recommend Michael Hudson on the relationship between debt and capitalism. His view is that the danger to the stability of the economy presented by debt is not a feature of capitalism but is very old, but with capitalism comes a nrw unheal

It's jargon used by part of the industry. It's not like the usual irregularities of natural language. There's no need to encourage its wider adoption.

I linked to the website (which was updated in May, but its contents could do with more work) because it has examples of how well the suite fits together. I don't know much about Jax. I've seen competent benchmarks showing an order

Autodiff is a place where there is a gulf between Julia and Python, one that I think can't be bridged well: JuliaDiff is astonishingly flexible and performant. https://www.juliadiff.org/

There are warts with the beginner experience with Python, principally the awful situation with packaging. If you care about performance in code that mixes together several packages in nontrivial ways, Julia is way better than Python. There&

Funny, last time I changed my birthday on Facebook I was asked "Are you sure? You can change your birthdate at most 5 times". Presumably they must be aware that at least one of the birthdates I gave was false.

Apple has less to fear from antitrust than Google in general, and particularly from taking hostile actions towards Facebook. On the other hand, Facebook is not really a competitor to Apple, while Google very much is, so Apple has an incenti

Mea culpa: I should have been aware of that. I'm looking at https://status.nixos.org/ Are the 6-12 month old releases more stable than the 0-6 month releases? (i.e., is 20.03 more stable than 20.09?)

It used to be the case that double precision meant two words, which for this 16-bit CPU fits. It's fairly rare these days now we care more about portability.

Debian stable offers unattended patches, which is something I value highly in public-facing server deployments. I haven't seen anything like this even proposed for NixOS. https://wiki.debian.org/UnattendedUpgrades

I'm surprised the option of moving the package to contrib got so little support. Many of these packages don't seem a good fit for Debian stable and its security-patch model.

Apple didn't give a reasonable timeframe to respond, but that is typical for them. The 7 weeks Amazon gave absolutely is reasonable: if this was a priority for Parler they could have put some effective measure in place.

If Parler was serious, the owners would have hand-moderated the specific complaints Amazon made. Their response is like a streaming service that responds to a DMCA takedown by saying they plan on making it possible to comply sooner or later
