Right, but having your species single-handedly cause a mass extinction event on a scale not seen in 250 million years and having it happen in the span of a couple centuries (which is like a millisecond in geological time) seems like a pret

Don’t make phone calls on the teleco layer. Make them on the application later, such as FaceTime voice or Signal. If phone companies won’t secure their networks, lay a secure layer on top of the phone company network.

Again, Friends Lists. You can most certainly post to only certain groups of people. Though let’s be honest here - anything you post on Facebook (or any other social media) you should assume is public, regardless of privacy controls.

Most good stuff is closed source now. It is what it is. It boils down to trust. Do you trust Google? Do you trust Apple? I trust Google to care very much about security. I also trust that they are gathering as much information as they c

With apps like Signal, and with the expanding adoption of pseudo secure methods like TLS mail transport, easy encrypted mail feels like something that is coming 10 years too late to be relevant. That said, Protonmail’s implementation is pro

Help me ObiWan Kenonbi, you’re my only hope. What’s a good list of serious subreddits? I’ve found a small handful, but there are surprisingly few I could find that had genuinely compelling content or commentary.

Living near Omaha, I see them all the time -- they look a lot like Air Force One (and get mistaken for that by non-locals all the time due to the similar livery). That's the first plane I thought of reading this article, too. I imagi

Heh. As a photographer I'm not sure what utility this would have for someone like me. The last thing I want to do is smash my glorious high-bit-depth RAW files with LR adjustments into 8 bit low quality JPEGs. And if I did, ol'

That feels wrong to me. I don’t know how the rest of the world operates, but here in America I suspect the health system would struggle to even begin to cope with seeing a 50fold increase in patients across the board across the country. J

The local stuff isn’t necessarily insecure (depending on your paranoia level). The security of your computer system is totally unrelated to the encryption of your mail - even with GPG most people are keeping their private key on the same s

Protonmail seems to pull it off. Though at the moment encryption only works inside their system. They are actively working to implement the ability to send secure messages to people outside their service with GPG, though. I believe the C

Gold isn't even in the same realm of volatility as BC, though. You put money in Gold and you're pretty sure if the world burns it's still worth something. You put money in BC at breakfast and you may be a pauper by lunch.
