I think that they are measuring the correct thing. It’s useful to know how temperature affects the molecular structure of the virus. From a quick glance at the study, they aren’t trying to determine how weather is going to affectHuman behav

I commonly find this advice on the internet and it’s never worked in practice for me. Most companies have standard legal contracts for all employees. Changing them is expensive because they need to pay lawyers and convince managers. On the

I have an uncle who is an employment lawyer. I go to him when I have questions. People on the internet are obsessed with edge cases. “I once had a former employer come after me for X” might be a true story (or might be exaggerated) but you

Focus on making your code consistent with the existing style. Don't make big changes to code bases when you first see them, no matter how much better you think you can make it. There's nothing worse than a new dev who thinks the

$40K is not much to put into a business. You'd likely be putting down more than that just to open a convenience store. Sure you need to spend a lot of money to grow a $1B+ business, but the same is true for a $100M business or a $10M b

For unit costs, sure. Some HFT funds are relentless in shaving fractions of cents off of their costs. I’m not sure I would call them frugal though. When I hear frugality I think more in terms of buying used furniture or decreasing travel

A piece of advice I once got from an old boss and very successful entrepreneur was to focus on increasing revenue, not on decreasing costs. I said don’t both ways increase profits? He responded that your costs could only go down 1x but your

Cash, or gold, artwork, whatever... Sure you can purchase with stock. But you can't easily purchase with $180 billion in stock without affecting the stock price.

Bill Gates is the wealthiest person in the world (or arguably Arnault). You might say, no, Musk and Bezos are worth 50% (or ~60 billion) more. On paper yes, but that's not a great metric. When I think of wealth, I think of what you can

Just to clarify, the linked article isn't really talking about false positives. It's talking about people who are carrying the virus, but perhaps aren't contagious due to it being only small amounts.

A reasonable but not too fancy two bedroom apartment might run you high hundred thousands or low million. If you are coming from SF it doesn’t sound crazy but at least got tech, salaries are far lower.

It’s quite ironic that people think this is a first amendment or censorship issue when the real first amendment issue would be if Twitter were not allowed to do this.

I think this is part of the overall issue with the handling of this pandemic. No one wants to take responsibility. The FDA's job is not to decide which lives are more valuable than others, or what our society's risk tolerance is.

I can imagine this being true at a micro level. But at a macro level, Obamacare has a rule that insurers can have a maximum profit margin of 20%. So you have two ways to increase profits in the long run: 1) Increase number of subscribers. P

~$25,000, sure. That's pocket change for some people. But this article is talking about payments of $10 to $100 million. And in any case, I'm not convinced that 400,000 people would pay $25k.

I don't think it's a crazy idea, but the numbers here seem a bit hopeful. I don't think you're gonna get 100 people to pay $100 million for an earlier spot in the line. Or 1000 people to pay $10 million. Particularly bec

I think the issue here is that I want a chat app that allows payments (which exists, but maybe isn’t widely adopted yet), not an expense app that does chat. That’s why I don’t live the name.
