I was just in SF and had to take a meeting in San Jose. The fact that I couldn't take a train all the way down completely blew my mind. What's the point of a commuter rail if it involves an hour bus ride to the other major populat

I'll say that a lot more people spend time with their laptops on their shoulders (every person in NYC, SF, London, Hong Kong, Chicago, Paris, etc.) than use their laptop for large render projects. A Macbook Air can handle even large st

You don't spend a lot of time traveling do you? I upgraded my Macbook about a year ago, and shaving off those 1.5 or 2 pounds saved my back so much. When you're moving cities every few days, walking through massive airports and hi

I put it in another comment on this subthread, but Friedman is an opinion writer, on the opinion page, not the news page. He's supposed to make controversial statements.

Just to nitpick: Krugman is on the opinion page, this is what he is supposed to be doing. David Brooks does the same thing, but usually on the conservative side of the arguments.

As a software engineer who has done a lot of non-profit work, try and engage your engineers with the community of other "do gooders" out there. Take them to the conferences and include them in the meetings that talk about the poli

Yea, Berlin was different in 1981 during the cold war where it was, for all intents and purposes, completely landlocked within East Germany and was economically stagnant. The DB, while not my favorite train system in the world, runs extreme

That's mostly because of the geography of Manhattan though. The places with tall buildings (Midtown and Downtown) sit on a solid base of bedrock, in between this base is much deeper a lot harder to build to. Housing in Manhattan isn&#x
