Yep, which is why I was disappointed Steam Link never really gain traction. Since I grew up on FPS with kbm, I hate using a controller for them, so I'll happily sit at my desktop. But Steam Link lets me play controller based games on t

I guess it depends on your customer model, but surely the keyword there is "begin"? It all depends on your customer/business model. If you're expecting to get to 1000s of clients quickly (i.e. within 12 months), then thi

Non American here. The only time I ever hear about "states rights" is in relation to racism or misogyny. Are there actually valid useful reasons for the concept or is it time to ask what purpose they serve?

That very much depends on the license. Many licenses include future updates. I am far more likely to pay for software that supports file formats in the future.

Completely agree about interfaces. File formats should be supported though. At the very least, I should be able to import a file from the old version and have it converted.

Look, I get that you want your article to have a respectable looking length, but please don’t make me wade through 3 paragraphs pointlessly recapping the history of software distribution from circuit boards. The internet. We get it. We’re o

My main issue with it is that the movie is over 30 years old and the argument in the movie is based on data from a conflict that began 55 years ago. Maybe I'm completely wrong (I'm not a pilot and have no military knowledge), but

Some years ago, Ars Technica ran a story on guns. https://arstechnica.com/science/2011/04/guns-in-the-home-lot... About halfway through a one-page article was this quote. "If you have read this far, ple

A quick google says there are 1.5 billion pcs in the world (in 2015). I’m guessing they’re pretty much assuming most people who have a PC have played some form of game on it.

That 3 billion people play some sort of games (particularly on mobile) is not at all surprising to me. I would guess that number correlates to “90% of people under a certain age (50??) who have access to a device”. That 1.5 billion play gam

Honestly, I really don’t care. It’s (at most) a 5 minute conversation between leads on a new repo. Either use this. or an _ prefix or whatever. Then set it as a global rule in .editorconfig (or whatever equivalent tool you’re using) and nev

I don't have a problem with someone writing an article on whatever for whatever language. Go nuts. I just think saying "articles written in C++ are inaccessible" is kinda dumb.

That’s a nonsense argument. For any given programming language, the number of people not using it outweighs the number of people using it by several orders of magnitude. It’s hard to get accurate numbers, but a quick google estimates ther

This.... so much this. I remember working on a bug and writing tonnes of unit tests, a bunch of scripts and eventually implementing an entire e2e suite when it wasn't reproducable anywhere else. Change to actual shipped code: 5 chars.

To that manager: that bug wasn’t the creation of a single developer. It went through code review. It had unit tests. A QA verified its initial implementation and a Product Owner signed off on the feature as done. If it wasn’t caught before
