I think at some point Go is just going to have to either be a very flawed language, or make some very big breaking changes. Between union types being difficult to do properly, and sum types being subject to infinite arguments on GitHub. I g

Super true. One of the best tests of this is setting up a new laptop. Some of the best experiences are when you get a new laptop, and just clone the codebase and everything works as it did before, no special magic. Golang with vendored depe

I’ve switched over to devbox, which is a thin, easy to use wrapper around Nix on osx. Haven’t had to install brew yet. Brew was simple in theory but I always ran into so many issues like this, or just various packages polluting everything.

It definitely fulfills the same itch as painting or photography for me weirdly. But that goes away the more “corporate” and tedious it is. But luckily my job gives me a lot of leeway. It can be and largely is a creative field I’d say. There

I agree. I think cloudformation could be there, but it would need a lot more work and support. The documentation is sort of poor, and iterating and developing on it is a huge pain. Terraform is better, but I still find developing on it a re

I felt like I was committing heresy when I told my friends that the vision pro was unlikely to succeed or at least succeed culturally. I'm sure it will pick up some niches just like the meta headset. The reality is, this is a covid pro

Popular or not, all this has taught me is that NYC, and with that most of America has no vision for any future. If after 10 years and millions in setup just to get congestion pricing in place, it falls thru because of the whims of a governo

We got so much for "free" during low interest rates, now we're finding out what all the nice tech stuff really costs. We're gonna see most tech products get enshittified, especially ones with high switching costs

I've replaced brew with devbox which is a wrapper around nix. It's really great, and I very rarely have to break the abstraction. Very excited for future advances in this area as nix itself is a nightmare but the idea is amazing.

I disagree with this. I think one of the issues I’m running into is that it’s clear to me that there won’t always be something to read in the future. I remember Digg, and other forums. And when it failed there was Reddit for niche topics. A

simply build only happens with relaxed zoning, and relaxed zoning will result in building vertically or at least, mixed use. The current way of building is a result of stupid policies to protect homeownership as an investment among other th

This is basically the late stage of us continually not building enough housing for years and years. I'm not sure how anyone thought this would turn out differently. As long as housing is an "investment", which in turn means t

Sorry, we definitely have different definitions of townhomes. Where I am from (NYC) a townhouse is typically a 2/3 story build, narrow. With 2/3 units or sometimes split down the middle giving you 4 or 6 units or as high as 12 usu

Definitely not against this, since any housing is good, and I hate letting perfect be the enemy of good, but not sure why we are so intent on scaling the concept of a single family home down to 200sqft. Townhouses in NYC have existed for ov

I live in NYC. The problem is that there’s literally 0 housing. That’s it. Literally so many people want to move here, but you look on all of streeteasy on a given day and there’s like 500 apartments. In a city of millions. Sure you can pay

Making code that works on all primitives and accounting for nulls/empty each time is way more difficult than using a type system. That’s the same argument people always use. “If you account for every case and also have 30 billion unit
