How to not learn from your mistakes and actually make them worse. I wonder how many valuable alliances they lost just because of that fear. Whoever was willing to sign was already probably not going to be a threat.

I don’t think collapse is by itself a good predictor of change. People in collapse just bow easier. Change of this scale unfortunately comes from terminal and collective despair. Let’s not rule out either normal change, not every marginal a

The solution for me is not to be more common. The solution is to create a very unique profile each and every time.

For any critical workload a chip is considered trash after 5-7 years. They still run , of course, but increased incidents on platforms that are supposed to be 99.99 are hard to work with. Now if you mean there’s unused stock of those , that

I don’t even think comments are useful at all given AI. I can ask my AI to explain a piece of code if I am stuck and I will get a reply in context of what I am looking for.

I am not sure of the premise. You can have a filter which takes garbage in and outputs the clean data from the garbage, a denoiser. Also your definition of slop is not specific to slop. Any input can be garbage, including this human sourced

You maybe work things out on the fly by matching against abstract patterns. Could this be an indication not of lack of memory but of specialisation in abstract memory?

We agree in intuition more than it seems you think we do. This paper is mapping the intuition to the philosophical discourse of substrate independence. Track its course from Putnam and Searle to Chalmers Shagrir and Anderson Piccinini, and

Relaxation time is not a defect (breakage) but an attribute of substrates. A claim that implementation is dependent on reliable substrates, is essentially the trilemma and its conclusion that introduces covariant substrate independence. Imp

I hypothesise in an informed manner. Paying for the Λ is what engineers in foundries do for us. This argument specifically is addressed in section 7: The natural objection — a substrate that realises A already has reliable transitions — is

An implementation map assigns computational states to physical states. It is instantaneous if its verdict for t is a function of physical state x_tau alone.

I wouldn’t call an instant as meaningless in a continuum. It is indeed, though, non primitive and idealised as traditionally in physics (the physical state at time t, given as the limit of arbitrarily fine time resolution). If I understand

Exactly the intent of it! Does not claim inventing any physics, just relating it to implementation in philosophy. The graded theory is a bit more advanced on the physics front but not ready yet.

My thinking, tangential to the temporal section, is an Implementation Trilemma, a CAP style theorem. An implementation map can be: 1. instantaneous and faithful, at the cost of depending upon substrate-specific persistence parameters; 2. fa

No one likes generating content. Many like generating income or status. It is a new era. The era of curation. I would predict shorter and weirder stories and meme style communication patterns outside normal syntax. Poetry e.g. is replicable

Arguably starts with Wheeler and “it from bit”. Zuse also, who predates Wolfram. For me it’s a little bit like calling the egg you hold in your hand the centre of the Universe while rolling on a skateboard.

Actually it’s Solomonoff. But it’s called Solomonoff-Kolmogorov-Chaitin. So Chaitin is among the few people entitled to call it something and AIT is real and less pretentious than using his name.

Indeed, that’s not about false positives predominantly. At least for me the key concern is if it’s giving a percentage when it looks like it calculates a Boolean and therefore implies more nuanced analysis than it does. Which explains the n

Probably a mechanism like what you describe. This is one more move that will push things towards a two speed world economy. One US sanctioned and one not. The question will be eventually which speed will end up faster. The challenge is when

I am not high, I have kids, and can tell you they barely care about Olivia Rodrigo or BTS. You dispel passports as irrelevant for one leg but base your argument on them for the other. The contradiction is sufficient.

Not British, but taking UK out of the definition of pop, is a bit too rough a cut. Also France. Look at the queues outside pop-glamorous stores. And was pop-art a pop artefact? Is TikTok redefining pop? Movies is an old measure, and even US

My favourite pathology is change the problem. Piggybacking on an organisational problem to solve it while promoting a personal objective. This is a subtle pathology, quite common e.g. when a new framework is introduced etc.

We disagree on whether there is a meaningful gap to close. For LLMs confusing an argued lack of consciousness (we cannot even define ours) for a given lack of agency is a category error in my view. And agency is the threat vector.
