I was speaking mostly of the financial district and all the glass and steel. But yeah, maybe not the greatest comparison.

The Alaska Panhandle (the part of Alaska that extends down the west coast of BC) and the coast of BC are actually roughly equal length (BC's coast is slightly longer, I believe). You are probably looking at a Mercator projection which

The Achilles heel of Vancouver was the insane liquor licensing, which lead to the moniker of "No Fun City". That's what you get when your city is founded by a bunch of Scottish Calvinists. But otherwise, I have great memories

If you're referring to Northern Gateway, it was planned to terminate in Kitimat, which is not a ghost town. However, tanker traffic off the BC north coast was banned, which effectively killed it. If you're referring to Trans Mount

Yes, I absolutely agree. For much of our evolutionary history, young men were optimized to fuck and to fight. I’m not sure how we square this with the needs of modern civil society.

Possibly unpopular fact: lots of people hunt and eat squirrels. So this is another way we define differences between otherwise similar animals: one is food, and the other is not.

One way to "store" it is to convert it to ammonia, a pretty standard process. Then it can be easily shipped around in tankers and so forth.

So roughly the same size but Canada's entire population is just over half of the UK's. Europe's train system works because of how crowded it is.

There’s little evidence that modest courses of anabolic steroids lead to shortened lifespans. Millions of men are on legally-prescribed steroids right now, although we call it “trt”. The East Germans were in relatively unique circumstances,

Somewhat tangentially, for those who are curious, Vannevar Bush was influential beyond his invention of the memex. As head of OSRD, he helped initiate the Manhattan Project and the National Science Foundation. Previously at MIT, he mentored

Rock climbing, especially here in BC. I’ve dedicated much of my life to it. I was walking out of Skaha Bluffs around a week ago and realized I hadn’t been that happy in months.

Same, except it was a C64. Many happy days and nights spent learning BASIC and later 6502 assembly with 3 metres of snow on the ground outside and pitch black by 3:30 pm.

Thanks. I agree that Zig is more complex than advertised. By the way, good job on Hare’s documentation, pretty impressive for an early-stage language.

by cgh 4y ago
It seems quite similar to Zig, including the error handling flexibility and memory management. But Zig also has a good concurrency story via its “colourblind” async/await support, although concurrency seems to not be a Hare design goal
