The first couple chapters of crafting interpreters (free) cover lexing and parsing and precedence well and it's very readable and practical rather than theoretical.

Loc (mine) is usually faster in my tests but doesn't handle comments that start in strings, so if there's something like x="/*" it can be way off, so I usually still point people at tokei. I need to try implementing

With real books I find it easy to remember where in the book and what part of the page whatever I read was on, plus I find I'm much more likely to actually sit down and read offline.

I thought I similar utilization in tokei on my machine. I copied the concurrency pattern straight from ripgrep. I'll have to take a look tomorrow. I assumed I was still bottlenecked on reads.

I just tried switching from mmaping everything in loc to always just reading all bytes in the file and it went from about a second to ~530ms on the linux kernel, with tokei at around 750ms. edit: ryzen 1700, 3.8gz, 8cores 16 threads, fedora
