Unison tries to swallow the whole elephant all at once, which is probably what the author is getting at. * `ucm` is like a coding assistant that sits with you the whole time. You don't grep through code to find snippets or anything, yo

AFAICT the future is just Azure and legacy enterprise contracts. Windows has no growth to make, stockholders only value growth, hence Windows is not of interest to the company.

In some ways, I find this even creepier than when I thought it was more than an SQLite database.

AFAICT all machine learning models right now are just pattern matching.

Depends what you want. Chromium also has hooks back to Google so if you are really data conscious you’ll need to look to something like ungoogled-chromium.

Yeah, this is the rub of it. I don’t want my browser to know about me. It’s not necessary. What are they gonna do, release a gaming-aesthetic browser like Opera did? Can’t this data be gleaned some most definitely not identifiable way like

As someone who has taken ketamine for medical purposes and marijuana for not, it is utterly off-the-charts bonkers that they are classified identically. A large dose of ketamine literally disconnects yourself from reality. Weed makes you ti

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I'm coming fresh to the team and I haven't written any Java in anger for 8 years, and there's Rx in here. I'm sure I could sit here and study it over and over until I get it, but why? My

I mean, apart from the hacker mindset of the thing, if you’re talking about the _outcome_: there is real value in being able to distribute something to a customer without having to worry about whether they have the dependencies or not, what

When I was in school in the UK, we were only allowed to write with fountain pens. My guess is that learning to handwrite properly is easier with them; I certainly write much more legibly with one today (now I'm 40). There is value in j

I liked mine a lot, but I got it in extra fine which was a real mistake. It's like scratching which makes inky marks, not writing. I should have gone with a fine or even medium nib. I now use a Pilot Custom 823 which is always going to

I haven’t played with many because I simply don’t have the time between work (Google’s Piper and Git) and kids. Piper handles the monorepo by only offering files when requested by the file system at the specified commit (this is probably a

This post is a terrible failure of imagination that would make one stop language development as C because it was so much better than Assembly. If you have no problems with Git, then I’m happy for you. I certainly have problems with Git, eg

I enjoy the idea, but I do wonder why we don't see more condensed fonts like PragmataPro. I've been using it for close to a decade and I'd love to see more options in the space, but no-one seems willing to go that narrow. Ber

Well, not just corporate espionage, right? State espionage is going to be at every large US company too. To speak to the article, I can only imagine how excited an agency would be to get real-time updates on the Uber movements of a target.

Sadly I think this is a significant part of it. It is so very hard to convince anyone in CS to fund unsexy projects. I think the majority of innovation on the unsexy things happens internally at the large tech companies.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who has spent so long with ligatures that not having them is a deal breaker for me. I use PragmataPro and have done for many years. It's pretty similar to this but has lots of nice ligatures.
