Agile focuses on the continuous improvement of not just the software, but the process. They tried to be specifically not too verbose, as dedication to one size and shape of process that does not fit all is precisely what they were against.

My actual preference is LTSV. Then all that needs escaping or encoding is a quote since a tab or newline inside the quotes is different from one outside the quotes. And I prefer encoding to escaping generally, since it's easier for som

I really like LTSV. (That stands for labeled tab-separated values.) LTSV is basically equivalent to a JSON object per line. You have columns consisting of a label, a colon, then a value. The columns are then separated by tabs. The value can

It makes more sense to me in these days of ubiquitous encoding of in-band data that it would be easier to edit if we just used tabs and newlines. If you need a tab in your data, the standard could support either \t (requiring \\t if you nee

I don't know about better, but at least almost as good of a C compiler built in seems like a big selling point. So that's, what, Objective C, C++, D, and Zig? Perl has Inline::C that allows snippets of C code to be placed directly

DRY really isn't about compressing the data on which your code operates. It's about reducing the number of times your code coordinates the same knowledge about those operations across its text. If you add a field to a record and h

Perhaps we should decide what to build deciding who will use it and why they'll use this instead of something else. Then when building the team, maybe we start with who we want working on it and then show them why it needs to be built.

I appreciate the humor. On a little more serious note, Perl is an earlier language and even more closely tied to C tradition. Many (but not all) of its built-ins and library functions and methods return undef rather than 0 for failure.

It would not surprise me any to have a Boolean type and have both true and false as restricted subtypes of that. However, in this case of it being used primarily as a return type for failure in a function call, I think they're conflati

Oh, it makes sense. It would just make more sense to me if the unit type for an error or failure was called "error" or "failure". They're sort of overloading the idea of true/false here with the historical bagg

I don't mind a unit type for failure. I just don't think it should be called "false". Maybe make true and false Boolean and have a unit type for failures called "fail" or "failure".

I don't think the argument is against unit types. I think the argument is against calling one "false", and I agree. If you're going to have a reserved keyword "false", have "true" and "false&quot

C doesn't exactly have macros. That's a text substitution done by the preprocessor in its own limited, special-purpose language. True hygienic macros of something like Common Lisp are a different beast. If all you want are textual

I think any discussion of small, performant, fairly memory-safe languages could include Forth or Factor. Speaking of the Pascal family, we could also stand for someone to put time into a more modern Oberon or a standard subset of Ada.
