Chances are the tools they use are working in meters and convert to feet either in their front end display, or it's a manual process that the surveyers perform. But changing the definition of the unit whilst keeping it the same is a ve

Amiga programming was all 68k + lattice C if you were really looking to the future (with K&R syntax), BBSs accessed via 1200 baud modems, and music trackers.

Yes exactly - I think the idea is to give a way forward for existing airframes to use more efficient engines. The fact they are hybrid is irrelevant to the owner, they just see lower running costs.

I imagine the problem is lack of game specific optimisations in their drivers. In any other field, hacking optimisations in to spot and optimise an algorithm that is used as a benchmark for the hardware would be considered close to fraud, b

ccache is fantastic for CI systems. It's very common for commits to only affect part of a build, and ccache allows for clean builds (tear down the build and rebuild from scratch) to still take advantage of previous compilation runs. Ju

The reasons given are reasons to stick with C89 forever. Change has risk, and there are advantages and disadvantages. If there were no advantages gained from C99, it wouldn't exist (people don't release language updates for no rea

I've found it to formalise the realisation that there are a number of developers who are hands on and keep the stuff running in production, and rather than employ another bunch to do this, it might make more sense to just leave the dev

On the aesthetic appeal of grain in photographs, it's worth noting that even before digital, photographers were particularly interested in the look of the grain. This is most clearly highlighted by the fact that even when film manufact

I'd expect the main impact to be a re-evaluation of risk/reward for the remainder of the portfolio, so any other investments (or opportunities) will be reviewed to see if they have a different risk profile than previously assumed.

As has been stated, voltage isn't a limitation, its the current that. Go and look at the HT wiring used in a cathode ray tube display, and you'll see it's a lot less that 12 AWG, and happily carries 10-20kV.

This sort of practice goes back to BCPL, which wikipedia says is the first braced programming language. Because { and } weren't universally available, compilers also supported the sequence $( and $) to represent these, which were typea

Those numbers are based on $0.1/kwh electricity costs. Here in the UK the cost is around $0.4/kwh, so I don't believe any of those cards would generate any sort of profit. Basically the electricity cost is the main driver, an
