Not at all. I mean, we love technology (aren't we hackers?), but probably we feel (albeit indirectly and just partly) responsible for such things: a man has died for a lost phone/gadget. One of those we buy, use and work with. So my questio

[Edited to add more substance. Was: Constructivism FTW! :-)] Isn't this another proof of the success of constructivist learning? Learning by doing using tools specifically designed to encourage this approach?

I agree that anyone can be creative. But I believe that most think that it "doesn't do it for them" just because they haven't discovered yet how and why it can be positive for them.

Wow! Psychology at its finest. Especially the last paragraph. Have they ever studied what happens if they just start treating people with dignity?

These are really valuable advices. What is left out, in my opinion, is how specialization (even in the things you do just for yourself) inherently leads to stress and lack of happiness. And being a generalist makes earning a living in our s

Even just trying to rationalize things like this shows how disconnected we've become. This is sad from whichever angle one looks at it.

I am a musician and I've used generative/aleatoric techniques many times. Carefully crafting sounds, defining my own generative rules and keeping adjusting each subtle parameter until I've achieved the desired results is the farthest I've b

Good analysis. When I first read Vic Gundotra (engineering v.p. at Google) statements he convinced me. But I'm not so sure anymore that browser delivered apps will win against custom applications. Most users don't even know what a browser i

For me it's mostly an aesthetic thing. It's difficult to explain. I just find simple things more elegant than and Scheme is terser and all the implementations (that I know of) are lighter than CL. It' s also very easy to embed in C code. I'

Lisp nowadays comes in two main flavours (dialects, technically): scheme and Common Lisp. I prefer the former and my favorite implementation at the moment is plt-scheme ( http://www.plt-scheme.org/ ). From the website above you can download

1 IP != 1 user. Even if it is always the same for the same user it could be that they're behind a NAT or just simply sharing a PC. Being behind a NAT myself I have a lot of problems with websites discriminating by IPs.
