Ideally in most circumstances you should have at least one cold (non-raid, non-connected) backup of all data, and an offsite one. More being much better.

Those are pretty big to be throwing in your pocket. A lot the time I leave the house with nothing but my jeans to carry stuff. Pocket space is a limited commodity.

This is a great change. I had to learn to add the branch after a couple of bad experiences with bad git pushes. git push <repo> always seemed like it should just push the current branch.

I've noticed this too on my first gen retina macbook pro. I switched back to firefox from chrome this summer and it's been a notably better experience.

For me personally it's image editing software. I need to be able to collaborate easily with graphic designers and manage my personal photography. Adobe's tools are the industry standard and what I need to collaborate with others.

On my personal boxes I use a combination of non-standard ports, disabling password auth (seriously, this will do more for your security than anything else), and fail2ban. Even with key authentication fail2ban still blocks several IPs a day.

Very true. That's the reason I've personally stuck with Pages for document editing. The ability to collaborate easily is going to be really, really great.
