Have a short form blog an a different domain that you own and is permanent. Mine is at fredwilson.vc and hosted on Tumblr. This is where I put the things that fill out the story but don't belong on a long form blog. I've never quite grasp

FWIW, I didn't submit to attempt to save the article. Wikipedia, deletionism and inclusionism on the same, and Clojure are all of varying interest to the HN populace, so it seemed like an interesting nugget of info.

Right, I pay $0 for gmail itself, but I pay a lot of money for my Android phone and the service that goes along with it. If they don't get a slice of that, that's their fault, not mine. In any case, if that phone gets bricked, or require

Google accounts aren't just yet-another-email-address anymore. While I like to think of my gmail account as a throwaway (I still only use it for testing email delivery from my proper email accounts), my entire Android "profile" is linked th

According to our editor, the book will be available for the Kindle as a special "Kindle Edition" through Amazon, and will otherwise be available online in PDF, ePub, and Mobi formats. This apparently[1] goes for the Rough Cut as well. Her

The ToC only includes what was released to Rough Cuts this time around. We're pushing up a large backlog of content into one end of Rough Cuts on Monday (including a chapter on macros); it'll hopefully come out the other side so you can se

All that seems great. I'll pick one nit before walking away from this steaming heap I've apparently provoked: > I don't see how the two are related. The simplest of affiliations can be taken by many as endorsement. That's only a probl

I didn't say DHH should or should not do anything. I was (perhaps too obliquely) thinking aloud about how the image of Mr. Fried (esp. re: VC vs. bootstrapping) meshes with his work with Groupon and their strategies, totally unrelated to w

Hi; I don't know you or Mr. Mason, and wasn't intending to imply that you were doing anything immoral or unethical. Hell, if I had the opportunities and circumstances that Mr. Mason has (for example), I might chart the same path. I was jus

I wonder how much of a ding this will make in his credibility among bootstrapped entrepreneurs in general. It's hard to talk down something and have your thumb in the pie at the same time.

Most people do not spend a lot of time doing what they are passionate about; e.g. even if you like programming, buckling down for a solid 5 hours to get that widget to work across all four browsers isn't particularly satisfying. Absent eco

Doesn't scaling the images down (to 32x32 for the pHash approach) achieve essentially the same thing? Images that differ only slightly will likely scale down to the same thumbnail to begin with, and the resulting hash still bears some rela

The state of PDF support in Firefox on OS X has me stuck at FF 3.6, and it doesn't look like that'll be changing for a while (unless I want to experiment with random xpi's and running FF 4+ in 32-bit mode, etc). Until that's resolved, all t
