Fantastic project! I have no idea how feasible this is given the available data, but would be great to see it expanded to other continents. Also apparently the ideal place for me to live in America would be in a national park/forest. T

Undocumented APIs are great when you only need to use them for a short amount of time, but if you try to build anything long term on top of them you should keep in mind that there could be changes that completely break your stuff, unannounc

If I needed a new phone I'd probably get this - will get 5+ years of security updates, and does everything else ok.

Seems like for things that are: 1. Perfectly parallel 2. Not accelerated by some of the other stuff that's on the Apple Silicon SoC's ...it will be a toss-up. Threadripper 3990X get about 25k in Geekbench Multicore [1] M1 Max gets

Depends on what you compare it to. A basic 8TB SSD is about $500, but it's also more than 10x slower than what's in the Mac. A fast 8TB SSD from Sabrent, which is still slower than what's in the Mac, is about $1800. Of course

Glad that Apple is finally back in the game of making monitors that don't cost $6k. Now make the same thing, but 6880x2880 ultrawide.

I think some of this can be guessed from the SoC codenames https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Apple_codenames M1 Max is Jade C-Die => 64GB M1 Ultra is Jade 2C-Die => 128GB There is a still unreleased SoC calle

Evolution happens on time scales of many thousands of years. Our lifestyle has changed enormously in just the last couple hundred years.

Let me rephrase that, I'll switch once I can do it in a non-hacky way. It should be possible - 6880x2880 is fewer pixels than the Pro Display XDR, which an M1 MacBook Air can drive perfectly well.

I'll switch as soon as High DPI ultrawide is a thing. I know there's the LG 5Kx2K monitor, but MacOS can't drive it at 6880x2880 which is the scaling option I'd want - It's less pixels in total than a Pro Display XD

I agree with him completely. But I also wonder sometimes: Who is spending money on all of these awful games? There's so much good stuff on Steam, GOG, the Switch eStore, etc. Wonderful games made by people who care, for a fair price, w

Zustand has solved the complexity of state management for me, although getting {employer} to adopt it is of course a different problem altogether. It's really bizarre to me how poorly useContext works, in contrast to how good everythin

I use it for the same reason. But to be honest the real solution is to expand opening hours of normal grocery stores, or to allow something similar to Off License in the UK / Späti in Germany. It doesn’t make sense that it’s cheaper to

And MySpace in 2003, Facebook and Flickr in 2004, the list goes on. Web 2.0 produced a lot of obviously compelling things very fast. The difference is that they weren’t really using “Web 2.0” as a selling point to consumers because users ca

Agree in almost all ways: - ETFs, Vanguard is a good choice for most. If you're older and might need a large percentage of the money fairly soon, consider getting some bonds as well. - Don't try to time the market - Don't thi

I have a similarly non-cynical view of this and am considering to implement something similar for myself. The reasons are simple: 1. I don't want to wake up one day 20 or so years from now and realize that I'm old and lonely. 2. I
