It's probably an apples to oranges comparison, but the image of America's electric grid looks like the prototypical "disaster" scenario when you're a new hire and walk into a train wreck of a server room that's

I agree there are very few people who know PHP well enough to build large web apps with it. On the same token I doubt, once you get that big to where it really matters, there are many web devs who know how to write web apps that scale well

True. I read the OP as describing a scenario where (a) Devs were originally hired as PHP devs, (b) Those devs decided to use a different language in the new project.

I'd say probably a large part of the reason PHP devs opt to use different languages in new projects (when given the choice) is because of FUD spread about PHP. Everyone wants stability in their career. If the voices on the interweb a

There appears to be some merit to what you're proposing. But what about long-term issues, such as climate change, etc. How are a group of people going to convince a large enough group to pay money for it, and who is going to enforce

I think stuff like this is only acceptable, morally and perhaps legally, if they tell you what they uncover / discover about you with this. That way we can verify it's all above board. Imagine they put the "eye movements &#x

What I think they fail to see is their short-sightedness (for short-term gain) is exactly the kind of mindset that appears to have caused the country to be on the cusp of an extremely turbulent time in history.

I might be way off base in saying this, but I don't find it is simply convenient that FBI played what appears to have been a significant role in getting Trump elected, and will subsequently benefit greatly because of it.

I'm always amazed at how quickly Amazon pushes out new, useful features. I don't know if it's on their radar, but I think one of the most important things they could incorporate is the concept of a "project" within

I think people don't mind being judged / measured objectively. I think the problems / angst probably arise when you mix "managers" / subjectivity into the mix. I think objective measurement, that is truly use

I've always been intrigued by how Finland handles this. I always had the impression there were probably "clever" ways to avoid this, by for example simply reducing income and increasing equity in the company they work for, e

Forgive me if the idea appears somewhat naive. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this but, given that the "frozen" water exhibits thermal properties of ice, in theory couldn't a closed system be built to generate ele

I have done zero research in depth on this, but one of the first (easy) things I would look at is the whois on the domains that are producing news. If they're hidden behind a proxy identity, probably unreliable. Also what about provi

I am happy to see this. I worked on a series of projects about 2 years ago where the company used Asana. It is probably just because of the way I think, and the way I go about solving problems, but I felt Asana (original) was ... underwhel

I have a different take on this (sort of). I think it's enormously empowering that anyone in the world can be a "publisher" and reach millions of people with stories through the internet. The next phase of this evolution, I
