I did like biology but at the time couldn't connect it with the impact the field creates in human living. today I'm obsessed with understanding proteins because predicting protein structure, behaviour, interaction are really hard

it does tend to optimise for survivability - not that it consciously intends to - but because survivability leads to survival, and survival in combination with lucky mutations leads to developing more survivability... and so on
