If all of this surveillance made the UK a safe place maybe you could argue it’s worth it. But it doesn’t. Phones are getting snatched, you’ll never see it again. Cars are being stolen in broad daylight. Burglars are getting months in jail.

Meeting people is 10x harder when you’re an adult. Missing the boat on social groups in my younger years has made it extremely difficult to meet people and establish a social circle. Mid twenties is when people tend to pair up long term as

That may be true, but I’d argue that’s just plain stupidity. Animals and toddlers exhibit similar behaviour - not understanding that collaboration and sharing can lead to overall better outcomes. Due to lack of adversity, his theories have

He’s a spoilt brat who’s never been told no. That’s all it is. He grew up rich. He’s never had to develop himself or face adversity. He’s even been able to fail, over and over again, and still come out on top.

Canonical’s interview process sounds like more than just thorough, it sounds completely insane. I can’t believe people actually put up with that rubbish to have a chance to work at such a mediocre company.

BetterHelp is arguably worse. Everything I've heard about them sounds terrible, but they're all over YouTube and presumably they're getting a lot of vulnerable customers who will never receive the support they need. The YouTu

Social media is probably a major catalyst for hatred. Hatred is driving people to vote against their own interests.

Still I've never heard a pilot communicate like that. On the European airlines I've flown on the pilot would concisely and professionally explain the situation and then make a formal apology.

What airline was it? I've never been to the US but seen a lot of random videos and pilots in the US sound kind of unprofessional. They don't seem to communicate clearly and use very casual language. For instance I saw a video rece

And what happened to Tesla solar roofs? Haven’t heard about those since like 2020. Who actually has one? And Tesla trucks? And full self-driving? And robotaxis? And the private venture around the moon? It’s like everyone just forgets Musk’s

That would never work, they would have to have some kind of override. Microsoft doesn’t have that kind of leverage over Windows users because they don’t have tight vertical integration. If Windows 12 enforced that, users would just stay on

Looks weird, sorry. Bash pipes make intuitive sense, you’re taking the output of one process and pushing it into another. Here, the use of pipes makes little sense. Why is “from alpine” being passed into “with-exec”? What is moving between

It’s always codecs. I don’t always buy into the $safelanguage cargo cult but come on, it’s apparent that memory unsafe languages are not appropriate for this purpose and desperately need replacing.

Isn’t the gold standard of containerisation gVisor? Can’t get much more restrictive than proxying and filtering syscalls. As far as I remember it’s the default runtime on GKE.

Reflection is slow and bug prone. Struct tags are widely considered in the Go community to be a nasty hack yet a necessary evil. They should be used at little as possible because if you mess them up you don't get a compile error, you g

encoding/json does not make liberal use of struct tags, it uses only one. It's also battle tested and lives in the standard library. I don't have faith in many other projects to get bug-prone reflection code right.

Struct tags = reflection, and reflection is nasty. They also aren't validated at compile time. Liberal use like this should be avoided.

Think Steve Jobs once said something to the effect of Microsoft having no taste. I think I’d agree. Inconsistent design language, inconsistent values, inconsistent vision.
